I never noticed before but when the village was attacked, they showed the women and children fleeing across the river.
Also, when Spirit got captured the first time, I got way more emotional at the mother's grief than I ever had before. I don't know why exactly.
I adore this movie's ability to show and not tell us via the visual story telling and the horses movements. Despite the voice over from Spirit's inner-monologue, it never really feels like it crosses the line into overtelling so they don't have to show us. If you know what I mean.
People have criticized this movie's over-use of Bryan Adams. I do not share this sentiment. That an artist can be over-used by the sheer virtue of them being the only singer/artist in the film. In fact, if an artist gives you the sound and feel you want in the scenes you need a song for, use the artist best fit for the job even if you end up using the same one. All this to say, these songs are some of my favorite songs of all time. Especially "Gotta Fight another Fight" and "Sound the Bugle" and "I will always return" as well as Rain's song.
There is ONE plot-hole. When Spirit gets back to his herd, a lot of time has passed. The twin bay foals were still foals. Spirit was gone for at least a year. They should have grown to over yearling size. But I can forgive this as they clearly wanted you to recognize those two. And this movie is so good besides a little thing like that can be overlooked.
OH NO! A continuity error. Which might border-line a plot-hole. The jump. When Spirit jumps the platform on the other side is level with the platform he is jumping from. But when we pan to the soldiers, the platform they landed on is level with the soldiers' cliff. A small continuity error for the sake of plot. Which in this case is forgivable because this movie's plot is amazing! And it clearly has so much heart and passion in it!
All-in-all, this movie holds up! It came out in 2002 and everything about it holds up! I still cry at it! I will end my block comment here. Hopefully at least some of it is coherent. Haha!

Ah it’s so nice seeing people discover movies when I watched as a child. I probably only got to see it bc my older sisters (plus many others) but this was my hyper fixation lol
I would watch this one constantly especially before bed. It’s one of those rare movies where my brother would watch it with me too, This and All Dogs Go To Heaven were movies I watched all the time.
