Friends 10x17 & 10x18

We are HERE. It has been an amazing ride, thank you all so much for joining me for the journey!

Friends 10x17 & 10x18

Comments

Chandler’s comment at the end was ad libbed, and it was funny for two different reasons. To the audience, the Central Perk set had to be taken down early, so they couldn’t show them going there, and it was a nod to the fact that it was done. In-universe, it’s poking fun at the fact that they haven’t drank coffee anywhere else for the last ten years. I do wish they could have left it up and ended the show the way it began: them all gathered on the couch in Central Perk and the camera zooms out past the window one last time, after first doing a last pan of Joey’s apartment and then Monica’s. A lot of call-backs just in this last episode. The mention of Treager, the history of the fooseball table, a reminder of the chick and the duck, Phoebe saying “phalange”, and Ross mentioning a break. A lot of other returns happened in this season, like seeing Mark again and Rachel’s dad, Janice’s last appearance, but I wish the season could have been longer and had some appearances from people we hadn’t seen in a while to close out their stories. Wish we could have seen Rachel’s mom, Ben, Carol and Susan, Richard, Mr. Treager. Could have had some flashbacks to Ugly Naked Guy and Mr. Heckles. During Phoebe’s wedding, her dad and Frank Jr would have been nice to see, and even David, stopping by because he’s happy for her even if he’s not with her. We could have heard from Emily again to see if things turned out well for her after that whole thing with Ross. That woman who stole Monica’s identity way back in the first season could have finished her prison sentence and stopped by to see if Monica’s life had changed, and we could have even had a visit from Marcel the monkey. So many faces from the series’ history that would have had welcome cameos. Alas, it shall never be.

Never noticed this before, but the doctor is Linwood from Angel!

🌸 nick, I feel so blessed to have gone through this journey with you even though not really with you LOL but you understand.... these last two episodes are very difficult for me because of Matthew being gone 💔

I think it's impossible to realistically answer such a question because as I stated in a different comment, much of the conflict in their relationship was exaggerated for laughs because both actors made the flaws hilarious. So I think it's not really fair to criticize the writing because it's not being written to be realistic or to show a natural growth, it's written to be funny. Friends is different from other sitcoms in the sense that humor was the point with very few exceptions. So that is why I am wary of holding a characters flaws against them when they are being purposely exaggerated and Ross and Rachel were always funnier in conflict with each other than they were as a happy well adjusted couple. That's really the only point I'm trying make is that Ross was kind of forced into a box of being overly selfish and jealous because it was better for the overall comedy of the show. I'm not certain that he would be that way if character development had been favored over comedy.

Josh Z

I've been wanting to see a Bring it On reaction for so long!!!

Mary Kate

The producers really didn't want things to be predictable. They really really debated even getting Ross and Rachel together at the end. But they decided that they owed it to the fans at that point. I dunno if you noticed, but Corteny Cox is pregnant the last few episodes (Chubby face, loose clothes) so they debated writing that in that after they got Erica's baby, they found out that Monica was pregnant after all (Because they said she COULD have a baby it just wasn't likely) But they decided to just give them more than just one instead. They debated giving them triplets, but since they already did that with Pheobe they decided to just do twins. I'm in the minority that enjoyed the Joey spinoff. The problem was... it was a friends spinoff. It had so much pressure to be as good as friends, and it wasn't. But it was still fun. (I won't spoil JUST IN CASE you ever decide to watch it) but one ep had an acting plot that was one of the funniest things I think ever happened to Joey.

Thanks for the ride, Nick! Your reactions have been a great end to my Fridays for so long now, it’s such a shame that it has to end. I hope you react to another one of my favourites shows sometime soon so I can follow along again! Also love how the Dean from Community (Jim Rash) features in the last episode (sitting next to Rachel on the plane) - might be an idea for another show to react to? 👀

Eddie Goodheart

I feel like Erika and joey would have been a great couple lol Thank you so much Nick for the reactions, I joined your Patreon because of your Friends reactions :-)

Priscila

This has been such an amazing journey. So glad you got to see this. My favorite sitcom. I love all the characters, so many funny moments but heartfelt moments too. 💖

Raquel Perodin

I loved re-watching the show with you! Can't believe it's over, but it'll be fun to see you showing Friends to your gf and playing the role of the audience :)

Egor

Bloopers and the HBO max reunion special! Let's go!!! Stay away from that Whitney Cummings half ass game show of friends HBO max tried to pull recently smh

dieselbeast

so "should we get some coffee?" supposed to be how they end the show? doesn't sound right to me

yadubi sawa

So the tears at the end were real, particularly Jennifer Aniston's. And when Matthew Perry said "where?" at the end, it was ad-libbed and legit as the Central Perk set had already been broken down.

Amy Silknitter

What a journey! Thank you for watching this show! I’m excited for you to watch the bloopers!!

This is a MASS over simplification. Yeah on the surface HIMYM has the same basic presentation and even borrows some of the same character tropes or episode ideas but just plain false to say that it is the same show. Friends does not have a lead character and does not even have an overarching story over the series. The closest thing is Ross and Rachel (maybe Monica and Chandler later on) but even that is only highlighted at the beginning and end of each season after 3, with the exception maybe season 8. The rest of the time the characters are doing nothing meaningful, they largely don't change much over ten seasons at least not to the point where missing an episode feels consequential. HIMYM is very different it has one overarching story for the entire series. Ted, is very clearly the main character and episode structure and presentation can vary showing different perspectives on a regular basis. There are also a lot more emotional, heavy moments in HIMYM to the point that at times in feels like a drama and comedy takes a back seat. If anything is a rip off of Friends it's big bang which is still very good but much more egregious in borrowing from the Friends template

Josh Z

See again this end of my favorite show always makes me cry 🥹

Manon Savary

Watching you watch this has been a complete joy. I remember when this ended, I was engaged, but not married and this year will be our 20th anniversary and it's so wonderful to have taken this journey with you. I've watched the entire show a thousand times, but seeing it though your eyes has been so amazing.

Amy Silknitter

It's so weird to see you finish the show... I've been here since you were on season 1 and you released the first episodes for free and well, been here ever since... woow... happy you're reacting to TBBT and rewatching Friends with your girlfriend... I'd love you guys tried The Office again, it gets so good on season 2 and on.

Devon Bauerkemper SPOILERS coming: How I Met Your Mother vs Friends: straight white people in their mid 20s to mid 30s live in Manhattan, mostly hang out in one big appartment, and at a place to drink beverages and eat directly under the appartment. A girlfriend of the nerdy guy makes the ultimatum that she will be his wife only if he stops being friends with the pretty girl of the group, who is also his ex. The main steady couple of the group has a manipulative controlling headstrong woman who is a great cook and loves cooking. She and her partner get married while the womanizer of the group officiates. There are jokes/possible serious comments among the group about how she could do better than her partner. (Who is the settler?) The pretty woman of the group has a longer on-again off-again realtionship with the nerdy guy, and a shorter one with the womanizer. The nerdy guy has one specific wedding situation that goes badly and becomes kind of a joke in later seasons, often referenced by the characters. (wedding bride movie, playbook page) The nerdy guy also works as a professor later on, and briefly dates a student. One person of the group has a long lost father and feels hurt and abandoned by him, the father appears to reconnect with them during the show. There is one episode focused on how every character has one annoying habit. Some of these habits will be shown again in later episodes, others get completely dropped like Monica's snorting laughter and Lily's loud chewing. There is one baby born to one woman of the group during the show a two seasons before the finale. There is one episode about what type of partying do the characters like - Monica's vs the guys in s2 when Rachel's parents are getting a divorce, wine tasting vs the dance club in s1. The nerdy guy ends up with the pretty girl in the very end.

I can’t believe it’s over! It’s the end of an era! It still feels like it was just yesterday when you were reacting to my favorite storyline (Chandler & Monica getting together in S4/S5) and I remember it feeling like it was taking forever for that storyline to happen. And now here we are! Friends is my comfort show and I’ve really enjoyed and looked forward to your reactions every Friday. That last shot panning around the empty apartment, coupled with the music, always makes me cry. Looking forward to your reactions to the reunion and bloopers, along with your rewatch while Quynh discovers it. P.S. Your idea for the deleted scene is hilarious 😂 but poor Gunther lol. When the actor who played Gunther passed away, Jennifer Aniston posted her last scene with him as a tribute on Instagram. I found that really sweet.

Easy Breezy Bri

“I got off the plane” I love that whole scene of Ross listening to the message, it was funny and sweet. When they hugged. They didn’t let go when the director said “cut” they just kept holding each other.

Tara

Seeing Jennifer, Courtney and Lisa crying in those final moments really says a lot about how much they all loved each other and seeing Jennifer have to turn her back to the audience a few times because it was difficult for her. I love that David was there for her to turn towards and he kissed her on the head knowing how much they were all feeling.

Tara

I love seeing Ross and Rachel in that final apartment scene acting couply. I wish we could’ve had more, but I understand they wanted to wait until the end for dramatic effect.

Tara

When Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry had their hug, you can so clearly see how much they really do love each other.

Tara

How I Met your mother is nowhere close to being a rip off of friends.

Devon Bauerkemper

loved watching these with you so much. omg just finished and why am i SOBBING. i haven’t finished this show in a long ass time because i don’t want to see it end 😂😂😂

Erika

sitcoms you could watch and hopefully enjoy: Ted Lasso The Good Place ❤️ - makes call backs to Friends a lot How I Met Your Mother (with Willow from Buffy - a Friends rip-off but good) movies: "Bring it on!" from 2000 with both Faith and Glory from Buffy "Instant Family" from 2018 (based on the real story of the director who adopted kids) "The Breakfast Club" from 1985 (an R-rated high school movie) good dramatic shows: "BoJack Horseman" "Veronica Mars" - ❤️ - with Cordelia from Buffy and Angel, and even Willow has a few short scenes (many fans compare the show to Buffy: a small blonde high school girl with a great father figure and unusual powers, confronting the

The Good Place & Ted Lasso ❤️❤️❤️

Josh Z Why would Ross stay far away from Emma, when she's in Paris? He has two kids, each on different continent and Ben has 2 parents already, so it makes sense that Ross would spend, say, 40% time of the year with him and 60% time of the year with Emma. Rachel should not ask him anything, he's a grown man he should figure out his life. Rachel was not satisfied at Ralph Lauren anymore. Staying with Ross away from a better job would only lead to bitterness. "I gave up Paris for this?".... it's nice that you think they're together in Paris now, that Emma is grown up, I just wish Rachel could be happy getting there.

Viera Galikova

I would recommend Will & Grace as the next series to watch. Of course, since you are into TBBT, I hope you also watch "Young Sheldon". This would be logistically difficult, but it would be great if you could time the Young Sheldon S2 finale with TBBT series finale.

Rich H

Ben still exists (I think the twins were just to busy to appear in the last season ) there is no way that Ross would move that far away from him and tbh I don't think that Rachel would ask him to, it's a great job but its clear that Rachel couldn't deal with being away from Ross every day. My headcannon is that they eventually live there after the kids are grown so like nowish

Josh Z

I highly recommend modern family for the next show!

Petra Marie

Fun fact the live audience reaction to Rachel getting off the plane was so long that it had to be edited down in post production. Honestly this is Imo the most satisfying moment in the history of traditional sitcom TV what is wild is that it was not something that the creators were certain of doing. Until they were told by their pastor that not getting them back together after all the years of teasing would be cruel to the audience and their investment. I agree and this person was 100% right. I have always said to anyone thinks that they should not have gotten back together that they were only kept apart because their conflict was always hilarious. It only took them 4 or 5 episodes to rekindle that romance which to me means that the writers could have done it any season that they wanted but chose not to because it was funnier. It's a big reason why I disregard people who think that the relationship is toxic, because you can tell that the writers did that on purpose exaggerating character flaws because David and Jen were just so funny in their performance of said flaws. If the relationship was written realistically without comedy in mind I firmly believe that these two would have been back together after having Emma.

Josh Z

If you have the DVDs l, you should watch the bloopers at the end of each season and react to them; or you can add that to end of each season when watch with Quynh. There's also the reunion special and the friends trivia tv show, both available on Max

MrsLolly27

Ar the end, Matthew Perry added the "where?" line and the show loves it so they kept it in

MrsLolly27

I'd hope that since Rachel told Gunther that she doesn't love him in the same way, he'd drop this fantasy of her (he never truly knew her as a person), and he'd start dating someone else, and be very happy. All three women of Friends and two out of three men end up being parents (or in Phoebe's case planning kids in nearby future). There have been luckily more childfree characters in media in the future years. i hope Rachel still took the job in Paris. She went on her own for the interview with Gucci. She's not happy at Ralph Lauren anymore. She should not throw it away for Ross. Unlike in season 3 before the break, I hope he's more understanding and he partially moves to Paris with her. The phalanges of the hand are the group of small bones that comprise the bony core of the digits (fingers) of the hand. Even though the phalanges are small in size, they are classified as long bones because of their structural characteristics; each phalanx consists of a shaft, distal head and a proximal base. Planes do not have phalanges 😂

Viera Galikova

Thanks to you ! It was fantastic to watch the show again with you ! 👌🏻

Manon Savary

I love this finale so much. amazing show over all, so many amazing moments.

Jeanette Dawe

The Office or Community would be great replacements. The Office gets great from season 2 onwards (and season 1 is just 6 episodes). How I met your mother is also good but only first 5 seasons...then you're kinda stuck with 4 very stale seasons. What else....Modern Family you'd probably like a lot but that one probably best to do with Quynh.

Chris B

Courtney Cox was actually pregnant for these last few episodes which is why she wears oversized clothes, but you can also see it in her face

MrsLolly27

Can't wait for this! Already feeling the emotions 😭❤️
