... about Chandler's father - the show never makes it clear whether he's a gay man who likes to perform in drag, or whether she's a trans woman. What's worse, lots of laughter and humor is coming from simply pointing out that this is how Chandler's father is, and that's it, that's the entire joke. Friends aired together with Xena The Warrior Princess, which ended in 2001, before Friends ended, and Xena had an episode where she meets a guy in drag/possible trans woman and it's not played for laughs at all. The person is fearing for their safety and Xena does the good thing by not outing them or even mocking them - even though she was attacked by this person. Xena openly admits she doesn't understand what they're going through so she's not gonna pretend she gets it, but she's not interested in hurting them and she lets them win a beauty contest. It's sweet that the father is always trying to reach out and that Chandler can finally accept it. Monica is right - the father was there for Chandler, never abandoned him. But the story of Chandler's father is sidelined too much, to be replaced with 'jokes' about how funny the father's existence is.

“I feel like that fire between them has died out.” That comment aged incredibly well 🤣🤣

i think that's actually sad for men who are like Chandler's dad, that a woman had to represent them.

Regarding your question to vows: I‘m not married but my brother and his wife didn‘t have vows. Instead they wrote letter for each other and exchanged them during the wedding ceremony because they felt it was just for them and not everyone attending

I'm sure it's been mentioned in other comments, but that's Kathleen Turner! So what made it extra funny is it was actually a woman playing Chandler's dad, lol Recomended Kathleen Turner movies: Body Heat, War of the Roses, Romancing the Stone.

As others have mentioned, Kathleen Turner is a well known actress from the 80’s. She starred in a few movies with Michael Douglas. Romancing The Stone and its sequel Jewel of the Nile. They were also in War of The Roses, which I haven’t see in a very long time, but remember that I really liked it. Kathleen is known for having a fairly deep voice for a woman. The waitress who Monica was having trouble with the pronouns was actually Courtney’s real life sister in law Alexis Arquette was an actress and transgender activist before she passed away. Just as a reminder, Courtney’s husband at the time was Phoebe and Ursula’s stalker, David Arquette. They met filming the first Scream movie around 1995.
