Of course they are pissed of that he kind of tossed them aside to work with Angel and his group, even if he was still fighting 'evil'. They probably feel like they were treated in for something 'better'. As for waiting for him, they said they had been waiting for him for months while he was working with Angel and co instead of his crew. I don't blame them for not taking it serious when he said he would join later and to wait for him.

This conversation took place shortly after the phone call with his father. Like you said, no one can rattle you quite like a disapproving parent.
