it leaves me fascinated how not only the movie makes us root for the brainwashed bad guys and disregard the suffering of the aliens who were invaded, but also gets most fans to root for the woman-stalker and dislike the one who did nothing wrong,she even admits she shouldn't have said in school that humans are smarter than the bugs.

2024-02-17 20:51:41 +0000 UTCThe movie is essentially making fun of the book and its viewpoints, so if you like the book, you'll probably not like the movie (and vice versa). Robert Heinlein's political views were all over the place (and kept changing over time), but "Starship Troopers," written in the 1950s, seemed to promote a fascist society and military aggression. But I don't think Verhoeven was just making fun of the book, he's also making fun of other Hollywood action and war movies from the '90s and calling them propaganda.

2024-02-17 18:54:04 +0000 UTCNick, you forgot to commend Carmen for not throwing up when the Brain Bug was sucking out Zander's brain...I never got on the Carmen hate-train, her only crime was smile at everyone including a guy who had a crush on her, and never cheating on her boyfriend. And Dizzy's creepy stalking of a guy who's not interested made me uncomfortable. Sidenote.... what is wrong with you two, why would Carmen hug some random guy who she just met when her BOYFRIEND just won a game? of course she's hugging her boyfriend. ...Lol, crying over Dizzy dying - but shortly before she dies, you say that the general who died was "asking for it"....? The movie keeps reminding you that the bugs are as smart as humans, or more, but you don't cry over how much they suffer and die for no reason :) This movie is a BRILLIANT satire. ... ..... a boy flirting with his girlfriend in class while the teacher talks about how democracy failed and facism is the way to go ... Poor bugs being attacked by the brainwashed soldiers ... Movie makes you root for the bad guys who give machine guns to kids .... Neil Patrick Harris walking around wearing literal Nazi outfit after Dizzy's funeral. Yup, this movie keeps messing with my head, as well as reactions to it and my own reaction. ...these aliens "monsters"... even though they were living their lives until humans came along to bother them.. Intelligent aliens trapped in cages as Neil Patrick Harris tortures them... Propaganda saying that bugs somehow send meteorites to Earth.... Propaganda trying to make soldiers emotional and angry .... Kinda heartbreaking to see all these humans, thinking they're fighting a good fight. And funny how two reacting YouTubers laugh literally during the moment when the teacher says that "violence never solves anything" is "wishful thinking at its worst" :) ... I hear that the book is better than the movie.
