When Lindsay asked Darla what the ring is, she didn't say it's a gift, she said that it's her pay. As she mentionend when she wondered if the sex hadn't been good enough to turn Angel, she had been a professional before she got turned. And I think Lindsay thought that he and Darla were in a relationship. So he did feel cheated on and thus reacted as a jealous boyfriend.
