people from other countries also do not get that reference. anyways, that is bound to happen with every sitcom that makes references. Eventually, it will get dated. Today, sitcoms reference Taylor Swift, for example, but 30 years from now, young people won't care about her.

Back in S1 the group was sitting around the TV watching an episode of the sitcom "Three's Company" from the late 70's early 80's. On that show, two ladies ask a guy who is a chef to be their new roommate, but the only way the landlord would agree was if the guy was gay. So this new male roommate, who was straight had to pretend to be gay. Needless to say, the roommates were always getting into trouble with someone overhearing something that was a misunderstanding. On that Friends episode in S1, Phoebe comes in and asks what episode they are watching and Chandler sarcastically says something like, "It's the one where there is a misunderstanding" because that was every episode. Phoebe says she has seen that episode and turns the TV off. On the Friends Two parties episode when Rachel's parents first shows up and they are all running around trying to keep them from seeing each other, Chandler runs up to Monica asking what would Jack and Chrissy do because they are two of the characters from Three's Company always trying to get out of a mess.
