(Stephen Deuters is CEO of IN.2 Film, Johnny Depp's UK and European based film & television production company.) The jurors in the trial were unsequestered and, as such, their verdict in favor of Depp could have been influenced by the manufactured anti-Heard online hate.In 2024, an investigation—for a six-part Tortoise Media podcast series titled Who Trolled Amber?—by the British investigative journalist Alexi Mostrous uncovered that, from at least November 2020 through 2022, Heard and her supporters were the victims of a massive coordinated global online attack by bots and trolls. Some of the findings of this investigation included: More than half of more than a million tweets attacking Heard came from "inauthentic accounts". Multiple Twitter accounts supporting Depp and attacking Heard, and displaying suspicious activity, were part of the Saudi monarchy's infamous "E-flies," which is a network of bots and paid-for trolls. Depp and Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, have a close relationship that stretches all the way back to 2016. Adam Waldman—Depp's lawyer who was kicked off the 2022 trial for leaking sensitive court documents to pro-Depp YouTubers and who continues to represent him—has worked for, and is friends with, several Russian oligarchs including Oleg Deripaska and Sergey Lavrov. Depp was introduced to Waldman through Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd Al Saud, a cousin to Mohammed bin Salman, in 2016. Other pro-Depp bot accounts, besides the Saudi-based ones, operating from multiple countries including Thailand and Spain. A coordinated network of accounts on Twitter that, at the very same time in November 2020, sent more than 100 copies of the message "This brand supports domestic violence against men" to all brands working with Heard. At least one Twitter account that was previously engaged in raising tensions for a right-wing political candidate in Chile that, in 2020, suddenly changed its profile description and online identity and started tweeting only pro-Depp and anti-Heard content. Multiple pro-Depp accounts that were using Artificial Intelligence-generated (AI-generated) images or stolen photos to attempt to pass themselves off as genuine accounts. According to Mostrous, these findings strongly suggest that support for Depp and the hate directed towards Heard before, during, and after the trial were, to a significant extent, inorganic in the sense that they were largely "manufactured" by a global network of bots and trolls. Along with grifters, misogynists, and "real-life Depp fans," these bots and trolls, Mostrous maintained, created an online atmosphere that made it impossible for Heard to have gotten a fair and just trial.

2023-03-22 16:45:13 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite films! Jim Carrey's physical comedy is just on another level. Fun fact: In the opening scene Fletcher is greeted by a fellow lawyer entering the courthouse. The man is Christopher Darden, who was the co-prosecutor in the infamous O.J. Simpson trial.
