2022-07-27 16:01:56 +0000 UTCGreat reaction. The Ents lost the Entwives because while the male Ents preferred the deep dark forests, their wives loved the open fields and sunny hills. So they drifted apart over hundreds of years. Actually a fan theory is that the Entwives live in the Shire, because there are little mentions in the books that trees have been moving there etc.. The movie only alludes to this in small moments, when Merry tells Pippin about trees talking in the Old Forest near Buckland, or when Treebeard recites a poem about missing someone and wishing she would come back to his place, and tell him it's best.
