Buffy saying that Spike isn't famous for keeping his promises is just not true. He kept his promise to Ford and turned him because Ford fulfilled his end of the deal. He kept his promise to Buffy to keep Giles alive and help take down Angel (he started the beating). And once he got Dru, and Angel was one-on-one with her (she wasn't outnumbered), he left. Other than coming back to town ("I bloody well hope so"), as far as the show has told us, Spike is a man of his word.
