Buffy the Vampire Slayer 3x1 FULL Reaction

Even better, I love that people see this as being self-involved. So because she was 'chosen' she's not allowed to take a break and (try to) grieve? Apparently not.

I actually like this episode, although I know a lot of people don't. I think that a 17 year old girl having to kill the first boy she has ever loved, in order to save the world...plus school and home issues.... Buffy has earned her Post traumatic stress issues many times over. It finally gets to be too much and she tries to take a break. Only, fate doesn't allow Slayers to do that.

"I do wonder why Buffy hasn't even called them." Well, because Buffy (for whatever reason) has been rewritten to be self-involved and a horrible friend. But to be fair, every single character in this episode is out of character. (Except Joyce. She's annoyingly unfair to Giles, but that's just Joyce being Joyce. Joyce gotta Joyce, y'know.) BUFFY: doesn't bother to call, leaves dozens (hundreds?) of slaves behind in Hell, does nothing to prevent the…demons? aliens? whatever from returning and killing more kids. XANDER: no sign whatsoever that he declared his love for Willow last episode. Instead he's obsessed with Cordelia, and gets so jealous that he's joking about her DEATH. But don't worry, they argue and then kiss as the cheesy music swells! It's just like "Bad Eggs" all over again! (What's that, you say? There was a whole second half of the season in which Xander and Cordelia grew into a more mature relationship and weren't all about squabbling and smooching any longer? Nah, the season ended in "Surprise". Who needs character growth?) WILLOW: pays so little attention to her boyfriend that she doesn't notice he's completely skipped summer school. (Are you kidding? The Willow I know would be wanting daily progress reports and probably blaming herself for Oz not graduating because she was injured and he had to care for her. But no, Will's completely in the dark. FFS.) CORDELIA: See Xander. Also she's back to hanging out with a nameless flock of peacocks. So that whole "I'm not a sheep" thing in BB&B didn't happen, she's just another shallow "popular" girl who doesn't socialize with "losers" like Xander/Willow/Oz? Good to know, I guess. OZ: Mr. Alleged Genius blows off finals, blows off summer school, and doesn't take a G.E.D. exam he could probably ace in his sleep, just so he can spend an entire year hanging out with his underage girlfriend. And we thought *Angel* was the creepy stalker on this show! Okay, so what's really happening is that Whedon thinks his writers will be too lazy to be able to have Oz off at the local college (we've established at least two in the town) during the day, and only coming in for meetings after school or at night. Or, if it's an emergency , he could blow off class. That happens in college, you know. Usually without the "there's an emergency" part. GILES: Let's a bunch of kids go on patrol, with only a weak "don't die" word of advice. Why isn't HE patrolling? Isn't that what he's paid for? In "Ted" and "BB&B", Giles saw patrolling when Buffy wasn't available as his DUTY…now he's just sending a bunch of kids out there to "lose half the vamps"? Never mind the gang, how about all the people those vampires are going to kill because Giles can't bother to help out? (Yes, yes, Oakland, but that's not every day. He's back before the climax here; he just doesn't bother to show up.) Grrrr.
