Added 2022-04-06 19:32:55 +0000 UTCWhat an amazing, unexpected, heart-breaking, and even funny (Joyce and Spike?? C'mon, we need more) cliffhanger season finale. So much to love in this one, and the wrap-up (?) for the Buffy and Angel arc did NOT go the way I thought it would and as good as the season 1 finale is, I think this one takes the top spot for me...let me know what y'all thought!

Buffy's mom learning about her being the slayer really resonated when the show first aired in the late 90s. Lots of kids got kicked out when they came out to their parents about sexuality. This was once again, Joss making a monster story out of something that many teenagers were going through. And, many parents were like Joyce... it was said in the heat of the moment because the kid is walking away from the discussion. I think if Buffy had gone home to talk, they might have worked at least some of it out. Although, her being expelled and a murder suspect would still be problems.

2024-03-23 19:53:01 +0000 UTCbeing a good mom and loving your child aren't the same. joyce LOVES buffy and its so obvious but she is a genuinely horrible parent from episode 1. treating her like an example from a parenting book, the episode where she's grounded and not allowed to leave her room? genuinely insane. i wouldn't resort to that as a parent EVER. and the final straw was kicking her out. no matter how in shock or confused or "not wanting to be defied" a good parent would never ever ever ever kick a child out unless there were extreme circumstances. these circumstances aren't nearly as extreme as they would need to be for a genuinely good parent to kick out a child and i think that really says something because look at the situation lol. i think maybe the only situations it could be valid is if you wholeheartedly believe that your child is safer being without a place to go than being in the house- or if they're trying to commit matricide
