Buffy Ep 12 FULL Reaction

After years of rewatch I think I have a theory that explains why Buffy gets a boost of Energy after she is revived. If you recall she has been afraid of the master since episode one. He’s been appearing in her dreams. Even in 1x11 Nightmares, where their fears manifested she is killed by the master and turned into a Vampire. So when he does actually kill Buffy and she comes back, she’s overcome her fear of him. That kind of Psychological freedom is what gives her the Edge the second time around.

Yay I love watching Domi! That was a nice surprise! I always saw the whole power boost she got after the master bit her was because he was very powerful and his bite, as well as her dying and coming back, made her stronger. Because after that, he no longer had the power over her, so I personally think it was the bite that did it.

So you're right about how vampires work in Buffy. You suck their blood, they suck your blood, you die. But in Vampire Diaries, you don't have to get bitten at all. You just have to have their blood in your system when you die.

So cool that you and Domi were able to watch this together! This episode is hands-down my favorite of the season, and it really demonstrates that this is a show that knows how to do finales. Almost every story thread that has run through the season, from the Master's attempts to escape his prison to Xander's unrequited crush on Buffy (and Willow's on Xander) to Buffy's struggle to maintain some sort of normal life despite her destiny, comes to a head in this episode. The result is an hour of television that feels much tenser and more emotionally fraught than anything else the show has produced so far. It almost feels like a different show--except that of course none of this would have any of the resonance it has if it weren't for the season's worth of development that led up to it. RE: the question that you had about why Buffy seemed stronger after her brief death--my interpretation is that she went into the Master's prison expecting to die, and her fears made that a self-fulfilling prophecy and left her vulnerable to the Master's unusual powers. When she was revived, she realized that she had fulfilled the letter of the prophecy and that the outcome of her next fight with the Master would not be predetermined, which restored her confidence and gave her the strength to resist. In a way, it ties back to some of the themes from "Nightmares". Like the Master said in that episode, "if I can face my fear, it cannot master me."

Love the reaction as always. This is my favorite season 1 episode. SMG’s acting is incredible and I tear up every time she finds out about the prophecy. I love watching how much you enjoy and have enjoyed Cordelia. She’s one of my favs too!

This reaction was so much FUN! 😊 I’d definitely be up for more collabs with Domi in the future (as I said she was my personal favourite). I also loved the extended discussion we got with this one. Domi has an amazing poker face too…I raised my eyebrows on a couple of your questions cause so many thoughts were rushing through my head for what’s to come. I’m beyond excited for season 2, I’ll just leave it at that haha. Regarding this ep: - Buffandra (as Domi calls her) was the highlight for me. SMG just blows me away every time with her acting. That scene in the library breaks my heart every single time. It was so raw and really hits home the reality that even though Buffy acts tough, she is still so young! The vulnerability she possesses as a character is the best part for me…that despite being a Slayer she, like any other human, fears death. The burden she carries is honestly so hard and the fact she couldn’t even tell her own mother :( - Xander - That opening scene with Willow…OUCH. This is why I try and opt for honesty. It’s so much more hurtful having your crush practice their declaration of love on you when they like someone else. But I was so proud of Willow when she turned him down later. Xander can be so clueless….but I’ll forgive him cause he literally saved Buffy’s life. For all his flaws, I’ve always found Xander to be incredibly brave. - Also I totally forgot that Domi loves Cordy, so seeing you both geek out to her was so funny! - Finally - Buffy is so pretty it kills me haha. She looked so beautiful in her prom dress! :)

Season 1 down, 6 more to go! I’ve been dying for you to get to the last episode of Season 1! Honestly whenever I re-watch Buffy, it still blows my mind how the writers had some serious balls on them. The risks & sacrifices they aren’t afraid to make with their characters is astonishing. Seasons 2 & 3 are my favourite seasons of Buffy so I am pumped for Thor’s reactions. I seriously can’t wait. He has no idea what’s in store.

I've always thought that Buffy was stronger at the end because she's fulfilled the prophecy and defeated it. It was the first episode where Buffy described it as "a whole big sucking thing," but I think it's been since then that we heard the whole process described.

Amazing reaction! Domi's poker face is top tier. I agree, if anything happened to Giles I would be devastated. SMG still gets me to tear up in the library scene. Also, Domi's probably mentioned that she had already seen the last few seasons of the spinoff before she started Buffy. Not sure if all her reactions are safe if you want to stay spoiler free, sadly. Can't wait for the next one. :)

Thank you as always! There is no cliff hanger because the writers were not sure that there would be a season 2, and so they ended the season as if it were the end of the series. I am so grateful you watched this and I can't wait for season 2! :D

That was fun. Great reaction. It really is an emotional finale. SMG cries, we cry as well as Allison H. They are great actors. I remember being in disbelief watching this episode the first time that they actually killed the main character (albeit temporarily). They really went there. I was impressed by their bravery in doing that. Buffy has the best rewatchability. Also, excited to see your 2x1 reaction.

You have to feed on a vampire's own blood to complete the change. Though one has to wonder why the Master didn't turn Buffy. She would have been a hell of an ally. So...you seem to really enjoy BtVS right now. By the end of next season, it will be your drug. Also, I can only imagine what was going through Domi's head, knowing the events to come.
