Buffy the Vampire Slayer Ep 11 FULL Reaction

One of the darker episodes of the season... also, LOVE that Cordelia got more screen time in this one...let me know what y'all think!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Ep 11 FULL Reaction

Comments

I was 27 when Buffy first started. I have been a fan since the beginning. I'm loving watching you discover this show! My kids were raised on it. My 22 year old daughter can quote whole episodes. As someone raised in a military town, I can tell you that Buffy's feeling left out by the shared history of Willow and Xander hit hard. I grew up here, but half my friend group changed every couple years when squadrons were reassigned. New kids always missed our "inside jokes".

The continuity is really impressive in this show, yes. It has a sense of history.

I am not going to spoil anything about the show, but in future episodes, there are keys, aka pretense to episodes to come, for example, an episode saying something about an episode, 5 or more episodes in the future or future seasons further down the line.

Yay almost to the Season 1 finale. Man, I can’t wait for Thor’s reaction to it. For me personally, nobody does finale episodes like Buffy did 🤯 The writing on Buffy is just so clever & brilliant. I started watching the show when I was young & so the themes of almost every episode might not have had the impact they do on me now as a grown adult. But no matter what age, it’s just so relatable despite the supernatural world it’s set in. That’s my favourite thing about Buffy. I love that it’s entertaining but also moves you & makes you think

I agree Grace. I feel like I've had an allergy to inauthenticity since I was very young. I wouldn't say I'm always happy in solitude (it depends) but every time I've had to be inauthentic in a crowd in order to "fit in" my anxiety spikes. And I think everyone can feel that anxiety because we all want real connection but not everyone is conscious of it. Like Marcie, that feeling like you're disappearing is real. I will say that my extroverted friends could survive that setting by disassociating with themselves but the pain always came later. The song "Tears of a clown" by the Miracles pretty much sums it up.

Thanks so much! That was a great reaction and fun to watch. I personally want to have real connections and am happy being in solitude rather than seeking attention that is never truly satisfied, because that is the ego talking. But that's just me :) I like to watch reactions that feel like real connections, so thanks so much! It's so helpful. :D 🤎

Clea Duvall has done loads of interesting work. The TV show Carnivale is what comes to mind for me- it's an awesome show.

Nice to hear your analysis. You understand the show well! As Buffy grows up you can imagine the themes get more complex and also her life as a hero impacts that as well. I do still appreciate this more straightforward theme of the episode. It also makes more clear that Buffy relates to Cordelia because she WAS a Cordelia type person before she became the Slayer. She also relates to her isolation just being The Slayer. Also, the teacher's lessons in class and the music you hear in episodes tend to talk about the themes and are good to pay attn to as well.

This episode has always freaked me out, the creepy laugh and just the thought of someone being able to watch you without you knowing

Great reaction Thor. Really enjoyed how deep this one got with the themes of isolation and loneliness. And I agree, I loved how they focused on Cordy and her finally showing some true vulnerability. You could see that her and Buffy are actually quite similar and how Buffy could relate to feeling invisible as well in her own way. Regarding your point about whether it’s better to be alone or feel alone in a crowd…well neither is ideal but I’d say the latter is worse. If you’re with a crowd and they don’t “see” the real you, then it can feel like a double rejection in way. Say if they only like you cause you’re funny, then you can fool yourself for a bit but the emptiness creeps back in ten fold cause being around those “friends” can reinforce how you feel/see yourself. From personal experience, I’ve witnessed that scenario hurt more cause you can become dependent on external validation and then dealing with the crash when reality hits. No one can fill that void but us. Even if we have friends who love us, we all need to be alone at some point. I think as humans it’s such a struggle cause it’s the insecure, weird, dark parts of ourselves that needs our compassion most but those are always the voices we want suppress or deem unlovable... - FYI - Invisible girl is also Dr. Cruz (Chuck’s doctor) in ‘Better Call Saul.’ - And the best exchange was - Giles: "You know, I don't recall ever seeing you here before." Cordelia: "Oh no, I have a life." 😂😂

The actor who plays Mitch (the boy who got beat with the bat) also played Todd Wilkins on the syndicated Sweet Valley High tv series.

Yes, Principal Snyder is the Deep Space Nine actor...his character on DS9 became one of my favorites, too. He took a character with all the most unfavorable (non-evil) traits a writer could give him, most of them genetic, and made him a great character. Quark for the win!

Melody Peterson

Dropping everything for Buffy 🤗 - I cannot wait to watch this and also the S1 Finale.....We're finally getting closer to where I think the show really finds it's feet. I'm beyond hyped for S2 as well :)

Effie

Hey! You got your Cordy episode. Mazel tov! And you are correct, that is Quark.
