Ah, I noticed Luke glancing down, but I didn't realize that that's what he was doing. I actually thought that was a moment where he was taking in his choices (death or the Dark Side), and decided heroically that he would rather die. But that's an interesting take, and it would explain Vader's lack of a reaction (and also why Luke would jump instead of trying his best to die fighting Vader).
