Saturday Update!

Last week was... a lot. Kind of a roller coaster. I found out that the construction company I hired never actually did anything about my broken window [ I found out that windows take many weeks to manufacture and they never even contacted a window company ] and they also left a pile of garbage including a whole door and a pile of broken glass [ old mirrors ] in the parking lot, which the condo board got mad at me for. I had to clean that up myself at 7am. which was extra irritating because the glass was mixed in snow and ice.
But thankfully, that was the last of the shitshow and they've given me my keys back. Now that they're out of the picture, I've been able to take over myself. I've already lined up a consultation with a window company and hired movers for a moving day near the end of the month. Thanks to Patreon specifically, my finances have recovered enough to buy a dishwasher too [ thank you guys so much for that!!! ] I finally feel like I'm in control of my life again.
I still have to pack everything and show up to these meetings, and do some other minor stuff though, so I'll be very busy for the rest of the month [ as expected ].
But, knock on wood, I think the really bad shit is over. Now it's just work, and I'm fine with that.
Speaking of work- Let's get to the actual update!
Current Image Finalization - 738/747 - 99%
Last week I managed to just barely finish the background of Strade's office/bedroom/mancave/whateveritis and its 6 variants.
In theme with the last week though, this background gave me extra trouble LMAO
I originally drew the couch too short:
And got all the way to inks and flats before I realized that it's too short for Strade to sleep on 🙄 So I had to fix that before moving on.
But thankfully, that was the last difficult art job. All that's left is:
a single background that is just a doorway [ easy to draw ]
polishing up some placeholder blood splatter effects
slight edits on two dong pics [ didn't define foreskin well enough ]
changing the blue highlights to pink ones on a couple side sprites because of context
I think I can finish this all next week. I'll also be packing though, so I'll have to see how it shakes out.
That leaves me with a 'spare week' before moving day, so I might use that to redo the main menu art and create an animated dirtymurdergames logo if I have time.
Oh, one more thing- Blue Monday is coming up on January 20th. That's statistically the most depressed day of the year, or the hardest day for mental health. I have a tradition of drawing something nice/wholesome for people for that day, so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions? I'm not quite sure what I want to draw yet. Whatever I do, I'll be posting it on dirtymurdergames dot com.
And thank you guys so much for your support and patience during all this. It's been hard but it would be so much harder without you guys, so I'm really thankful.
This is a rough time of year so take it easy when you can and be gentle with yourself. I know there's a lot of really scary shit going on in the news around the world too. I know I certainly have some new fears. But we gotta just take it one day at a time and always hold the simple joys close.

It's a lot, I know. 😅 The suggestions are honestly just my personal headcanon of how I'd imagine Ren probably spent his life after escaping Strade. To me, Ren likely went through an initial identity/existential crisis as he reoriented himself to this new way of Being, of being the one now responsible for calling all the shots. But once that he got over the confusion & grieving period (of who he used to be/could've been, processing his mixed feelings about Strade, etc.)......Ren probably dusted himself off and made it his life's mission to "party it up" like never before, now that he's able to live life more authentically, on his terms. 😂 Honestly? Good for him! 👏 👏 👏 🥳

Sometimes it feels like art pieces miss that, but when I look at the spaces you create for your characters it never feels like *just* a background, it feels like you could really imagine the characters living and existing in those spaces, what led up and contribute to their decor and design choices. It's an impressive quality to have in art, and your pieces always encapsulate it very well!

I'm glad your moving is going well too - my family & I are about to be moving - it's already stressful & we haven't even done anything, so I can only imagine LOL Also had no clue about how poor mental health is this time of year! I've been in a rut myself, but it's nice to know this is common, & I'm not alone in that! As for art for that day, my only two cents are that I love seeing Strade, Ren, and/or Lawrence just being happy guys, but obviously that's just me LOL Do as you wish, Gato! We'll love it regardless :)
