Course of Temptation Dev Diary #105

Hello friends! Hope you all had a good Christmas, or you know, at least a decent Thursday.
We're currently on v0.7.4f, which came out last weekend after last week's dev diary. It contains a bunch of fixes, most significantly fixing some issues with the plays selected for football practice.
The holiday has necessitated a little bit of time away, but since I just had a vacation last month, mostly I've been working this week. In any case, I'll try to keep this short!
I've been focusing on implementing the practice/subskill/play system thing into esports and swimming. For esports, this is relatively simple. I needed to come up with all new skills and plays for it, of course, but once that was done, the implementation was basically identical to what I did for football.
Swimming is a little more complicated. Not that the system doesn't work for swimming — involving different subskills works quite well for it, actually. Currently swimming just comes down to Athleticism, but in reality different competitive events use completely different techniques, some of which are more difficult than others. But in order to more or less preserve the way swim meets are currently structured, I can't use the system in the same way it's used in other sports. It'll have to roll groups of segments a bit at a time, adding a difficulty modifier based on the choice of whether to pace yourself or go all-out and spend your stamina. So swim meets need a bit of refactoring.
In the process of researching this, I also discovered I made a couple of mistakes in the original implementation of swimming. I made the pools fifty meters long when in US college swimming they're actually twenty-five. No, not twenty-five meters. Twenty-five yards! And the events should be in yards too. But this correction is pretty easy to do considering I'm already restructuring stuff. This game often has me doing a surprising amount of research into things I don't really know that much about.

There is also a new location that came about as a result of me pausing and going, "Wait, where could you practice esports where you'd run into teammates like with the other sports?" There really wasn't a place, but it's already established within the description of Chamberlain Hall that it has computer labs available, so it seemed logical enough to add one. For the moment, it's mostly just a way to access internet stuff before you have your own computer — which the phone does as well, so that isn't really of too much value. One difference is that it enables you to start a writing career without needing your own computer, and probably there will be other things as the game develops. And then of course there's esports practice opportunities.
My next priority is going to be either one of two things: Changing up the esports storyline a bit (all of the sports storylines could use some expansion, but I'm pretty certain the general consensus is esports needs this most of all), or building out the professional porn career events so it can turn into the weekly side paycheck it's meant to be. I have ideas for both and my intention is to get to both of them with this update. However, I doubt I can get them both done before early access, so one of them will happen somewhere between early access and public release.
Okay, that's all for now! You'll hear from me again in the middle of next week for early access. Until then, I hope you have a good holiday week, whatever you celebrate, and as always, I truly appreciate your support!

If you're already thinking about changing up the ESports storyline stuff I feel like this is a section that could very organically build on the currently limited hypnosis content - either with the current focus NPC teammates or it could give the coach something more to do. (I also think the classroom harasser could do stuff with hypnosis but they aren't under revision rn)

2025-12-31 05:24:17 +0000 UTCIm a little late this time. Regardless this all look phenomenal. Love how everything is being expanded and more is being put into sports. The addition of a computer lab is also nice as it gives more reasons to show up a Chamberlain Hall. Also ah yes the age old issue of Yards, Meters, Miles, Kilometers, etc. Measurements are all very fun. Personally im really excited for the Swimming expansion and to see where all it leads to. Esports also seems to have a plan in it direction si thats good. Alas the Mascot shall languish untouched ='( lol. Im not as excited for the porn career myself but more content is good content in my book. So keep up the good work always happy to see an update from you.
