Tighten/Loosen System Game Plan
Added 2023-02-21 16:07:11 +0000 UTCThanks for your suggestions everyone. Here’s my game plan for the upcoming tighten/loosen system, let me know if you like it:
- Items that can be tightened/loosened will have the “AllowTighten” property set. Only these items will be concerned.
- Lots of items like ropes, straps, armbinders, straitjackets and gags will have that property, more could be added or removed with time.
- An item that is locked cannot be tightened or loosened.
- For players with free hands, there will be a new “Tighten / Loosen” button on the item dialog menu and the item extended dialog.
- The tighten / loosen sub menu will offer four choices: tighten a lot (+4 difficulty) tighten a little (+2 difficulty), loosen a little (-2 difficulty) or loosen a lot (-4 difficulty)
- Items can never go over +4 difficulty from their original factor, so they can only be tightened a lot once or tightened a little twice.
- In the struggling mini-games, if the item allows tightening and isn’t locked, it will be possible to loosen it by working longer in the mini-game. Another progress bar will appear to show that the player is working on loosening the item.
- Loosening while struggling on an item will remove 2 on the difficulty to struggle out in the next attempt.
- It won’t be possible to loosen an item by struggling if the challenge is 10 is more. Right now, a challenge of 6 is impossible, so 6 + the extra 4 will make 10 impossible.
Do you like the game plan? Is it too complicated? Thanks a lot.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the idea. Yep, that variable will be visible for the player.

2023-02-21 22:32:19 +0000 UTCSounds really well thought out and balanced. Love making it so that individual items can be made tighten-able or not. Allows things to be tweaked, to make more sense. Also love the idea that struggling might not get you LOOSE, but it might make things LOOSER. Also, a thought. I assume that programmatically, there will have to be some kind of variable that stores the consultative tighten/loosen in effect. So the game will know when it can't get any tighter/looser. Make that variable visible, on the item's screen. That way, somebody can wander in, and do a "Hey, this seems to have worked loose. Let me fix that."
