Grass/Shrub/Coral Foliage and Leaf Debris
Added 2025-09-26 15:00:15 +0000 UTCHello! That post title might sound exciting, but this is cool!

I've been grinding on my game nonstop lately, and a big part of this week's mission was nailing these little destructible tufts of grass.
(Even tho my project isn't a full action-combat-zeldalike, and these context-based environmental interactions aren't real sword-swinging...) it's important to me for this to look right-- as a way to enhance the game experience and give more interactive elements for the player to physically "touch" in the playspace.
Part of that "physical-interaction" in the gameworld is the persistent debris that the breakable stuff leaves behind...
Leaves behind...
LEAVES. GET IT-- LEAVES!!!!!
Anyways-- what we have here is a tileset full of crunchy grassy plant-debris which is designed to be spammed all over your game environment in the player's aftermath.
You'll recognize the bases of these grass sprites. They were originally a patron release and I really liked them, so I included them in the first Time Elements tileset pack.
In addition to just a general "green grass", I also made use of this effect in two specific biomes so far in my game. Both of them heavily make use of my tiles and other patron assets, like the coral biome with grass from this tileset.
I'm including these variants as well: the salt-coast and coral-caves biomes might be a part of your game world too-- and if not, I think they'll provide useful variants anyways.

These grass and foliage-debris tiles are arranged in a general tileset in a regular grid, you can re-organize however fits best for your project, or just clip out the parts that will be useful for you.
Note that some of the coral-like objects are slightly taller than 1-tile; in my game I treated them more like character sprites-- the tile-alignment guide in the sheet should help visualize what I mean.
I hope that this is useful for you.

Thanks for everything and have a fantastic weekend!

Note the actual swing effect that I'm using was made by jason tom lee, his effects are the best: https://jasontomlee.itch.io/
