Exotic Lands Preview and Update (gib feedback pls)
Added 2019-09-10 17:02:57 +0000 UTCHello! I have a special update for patrons today regarding the upcoming Exotic Lands tileset pack that I've been working on.
First-- this is the second update today. If you didn't see this morning's release, you can find it here: New and Improved Bamboo Forest.
Now-- here's a preview of the two completed tilesets-- Atlantis and the Giant Tree:

( In your game, the giant tree tileset would work better split onto a separate map for the upper parts, against a sky backdrop. But for the preview image, I just did it this way to show off the available tiles. )
There's also another entire tileset for the inside of the giant tree (I've shown an early version of that in a previous update), and the atlantis tileset is arranged so the walls can make ceilings to create interior areas as well.
I've also gotten a lot of work done so far on the Japan-Land tileset. Here's a preview of that:

There's a little more to go still: I want some more building variations, so you can make multi-level Japanese-style castles. And of course, I'll need to make some sort of Japan-styled interior tileset, including paper walls and sliding doors.
That's all that I need to make to call the set officially finished-- and it should only take me another 2-3 days. Meaning that I am on track to release the full pack this week, right on schedule!
BUT...
This is what I've been thinking, and I'd like your input on this idea:
There's potential for the Japan-land tileset to be a lot more expansive. Right now its fairly basic, a single tileset that's made to be included with the others in the exotic lands set.
There's enough potential content for the Japan set to become its own expansion.
A bigger stand-alone Japan set would have room for things like: bonsai trees, buddhist temples, koi ponds, shrines, bridges, more interior options, more variations for buildings and castles, etc. I also have content that could be included because it matches the theme-- like the Ninja and Samurai sprites + battlers.
If that's an idea that people like, then the question becomes: what about the Atlantis and Giant Tree sets?
They would be released separately as well. But they're more or less complete as they are-- and they'd be released as special expansion packs-- probably one as a free download (like the Beach, Dark Dimension, etc) and one as a patron download (like Lich Crusades or Mythical Bosses).
I'd be able to release the Atlantis and Giant Tree sets immediately, while the Japan set would be delayed by another month or so while I continue to work on it.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
I want to deliver the content that you guys want! So your comments will inform the decision I make over the next couple of days. Either way-- you'll have some sort of big tileset release later this week.
Thank you!

Japan land needs pandas, despite being from China. Also a serpent dragon would be nice.

2019-09-22 01:17:00 +0000 UTCHi Jason! I'm actually working on a title based in Japan so having an expansive asset pack would be extremely valuable. I'm glad to hear this is in the works. Eventually having characters and battlers from medieval and mythological Japan would be amazing as well. Gods, demons, multi-tailed animals, etc.
