Announcing Pronunciation and Pitch-accent group lessons!

Greetings, patrons! I hope you are well.

I am excited to announce that starting this month, Natsumi Sensei (who has been conducting paid private lessons for the last six months or so), will be holding a free monthly one-hour mini-lesson on Patreon. This special offering is for our patrons in the “Japanese Phonetics” tier.

Each month the lesson will be announced on Patreon about a week in advance. Lessons will be held on Zoom, with the format alternating monthly between lessons with a specific topic or theme, and Q&A lessons devoted to questions submitted by you.

Patrons will be able to submit questions for the lesson in the comments section below the announcement post. During the lesson Natsumi Sensei will prioritize these questions, providing answers and practice for participants. If time permits during the lesson, Natsumi Sensei will take additional questions from participants. We plan on posting a recording of the lesson on Patreon afterwards for those who are unable to attend.

This is the first time we are trying something like this, and depending on the number of participants or other factors, we may need to make changes to the lesson format or content. We value your feedback and patience as we navigate this new initiative.

The first lesson will be held at 8:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2024 (check your local time here). This month's lesson will be in a Q&A format. Please submit your pronunciation and pitch-accent questions in the comments section below. If time permits, she will take additional questions during the lesson.

Two quick notes:

First: Natsumi Sensei is a proud mother of a two-month-old child. Because things happen, there may be occasions where she needs to reschedule a lesson on short notice. As a dad, I've experienced this myself. We appreciate your understanding.

Second: As I mentioned above, lessons will be conducted on Zoom and will be recorded. Participants may be asked to share their video during the lesson to allow Natsumi Sensei to better assess and assist individuals. As mentioned above, after the lesson we intend to post a recording of the lesson on Patreon for patrons in the “Japanese Phonetics” tier. While we will lightly edit the video to focus on Natsumi Sensei, there is a possibility participants may appear in the posted recording. By participating in the lesson, you consent to appearing in the video. If you have any questions about this, please contact us by DM.

We are looking forward to this new journey with you all!

Best from Beppu,

Thank you very much Dogen and Natsumi Sensei for all the knowledge you're providing to us ! I've been a youtube subscriber for a while now, and have finally decided to support on patreon, and get the japanese phonetic series, no regrets ! :) It's already sunday so maybe it's a bit late to ask my question for the group, but here is mine : For someone who has been studying japanese for a long time now (about five years), especially grammar, vocab and kanji, but has NEVER touched on pitch accent... ( Yes, I know, should've done it earlier...) What is the better way to retroact the knowledge on all the many words you already learned, but had no insight on the pitch ? Hearing and mimicking the pitch isn't really a problem, it's moreso trying to rewire the brain to actively replace all my prononcuations with the correct pitch accent one by one, after so many years of wrong pitch (Or atleast if it was correct for some it wasn't conciously, just by ear) I will of course be watching all the Japanese phonetics videos, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the entire process easier ? Again, thank you very much for everything you two are doing, I'll be watching live tonight from Paris, France ! Cheers ! :)
