Patreon announcements and updates

Good afternoon, patrons!

I have a few updates for you today, so I thought I would post a video covering these.

First, I have released new versions of Japanese Phonetics lesson 43 and lesson 44, both updated with native recordings.

Second, I want you to know that I will be making a sponsored public release of Japanese Phonetics lesson 33 (devoicing), thanks to the generous support of patron Sufiyan. This will be similar to the sponsored release I did of lesson 5, and will take place in the next few days. Thank you, Sufiyan!

Third, I will be doing a Patreon-exclusive live stream on Monday, June 7 at 09:00 Japan time. We gained a lot of new patrons this month, and I really want to encourage everyone to join us if you can.

Finally, if you missed the recent announcement, I've released a new Anki deck. This was created by patron Neeson, and I've paid him for his effort so that I could make this available to all of you. I should also mention the deck from last year by patron Céu, available in this post. Thank you both for your contributions!

Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or comments on this announcement.

As always, thank you for your support!

Best from Beppu,

Dōgen

Ok, I may be overthinking a bit i guess haha. Thank you again, I really appreciate your work!

Hi Benoit! I don't believe that I have explicitly, but the general rule for sounds like きゃ、しょ、etc. is that the initial sound consonant is pronounced in the same way as the typical 'い' variant (usually palatalized) of said consonant. Hope that this helps!

Dogen

Hi Dogen ! Not really related but did you cover 拗音 pronunciation ? You did it briefly with りゃ りゅ りょ but it was more in the light of the "r" sound. Thank you so much for you work.

I ended up coming here from episode 33 on youtube, it was a really helpful resource. Is there any index or recommended watching order for the phonetics lessons?

Netbattler11

Agreed, and just released it earlier today with some small revisions and additional info! Cheers!

I’m slowly working my way through the lessons, however I did end up watching Lesson 33 when I scrolled through the syllabus as it stood out. It’s really nice to hear key resources being made more public.
