Schedule Update & Japan Times Interview
Added 2019-02-28 05:53:21 +0000 UTCGood afternoon Patrons!
I have some unfortunate news—three members of my family, myself included, have contracted the flu, and as a result of this I will be delaying the release of Japanese Phonetics #58 by a few days; I've tried to power through sickness in the past, but it's always resulted in both a dip in quality and further delays, so I've opted to take a short break in order to fully recover and properly look over my family. I apologize for this delay, and thank you for your understanding. I'll do my best to upload the lesson as soon as possible.
In other news, I was recently interviewed by the Japan Times and today they released their article. I think the piece turned out quite well, and hope that some of you are able to enjoy it. Quick note on the 'white male' bit at the end—here I was trying to comment on the various challenges the average Japanese citizen faces, rather than actively divide foreigners based on their race, etc. I try to avoid politics however, so I'd prefer to leave things at that.
If anyone has any questions or concerns with the above please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you for your understanding and support, and I look forward to speaking with you all again soon!
Best from Beppu,
Dōgen

Thanks Jeremy! I thought that I was getting better yesterday but last night my condition suddenly got way worse and today I'm essentially crawling around the house haha. Certainly in the same condition as those celebrities haha. I even got my vaccination and still caught it! Anyway thanks for the kind words—trying my best to make a speedy recovery. And thanks for checking out the article, really appreciate it!

2019-03-02 01:36:03 +0000 UTCお大事に!It seems to be the influenza season, I caught them myself a few weeks back too, along with some other friends and colleagues. Even celebrities weren't immuned (some had to cancel their event appearances!) That said, congrats being featured, I find the article turned out well too!

2019-02-28 13:40:47 +0000 UTCCongratulations on your soon-to-have freedom-of-speech! I remember a comedy skit video you made once didn’t get released because your workplace didn’t approve of it… I’m interested to ask if you might consider sharing that skit one day?

2019-02-28 09:38:35 +0000 UTCI am a firm believer that when you're sick, you're sick, and you should focus on resting up and getting better. In other words: I fully support your choice, and no apology necessary! Take care, and I hope you feel better soon!

2019-02-28 07:02:25 +0000 UTCI think the piece turned out quite nice. I shared it with my University class on Popular Culture and Globalization in the Asian-Pacific. While you use comedy as a form of critique, I enjoyed especially your last skit on having children in Japan and the benefits compared to having children in the US from a financial standpoint. Anyway, I wish you and your family a speedy recovery and don't mind the delay.
