Conversations with Kazu-san from the Eigo-nodo channel
Added 2018-10-13 13:24:19 +0000 UTCGood evening Patrons!
Some of you may have seen a video circulating on YouTube of a Japanese man named Kazu nitpicking my Japanese. I've actually been in contact with Kazu-san since he created these videos; he's a very pleasant and knowledgeable guy, and the current voice of the native male recordings in Japanese Phonetics.
I just wanted to let everyone know that Kazu-san and I had a conversation on Skype not too long ago where we discussed a variety of language-related topics, in both English and Japanese (English subs included); I thought some of you might want to watch these so I've shared the links below. If you enjoy the content please consider checking out Kazu's other videos—or, if you're interested, reach out and ask him to nitpick your Japanese!

Thank you for your continued support! Japanese Phonetics #51 should be out by the end of this week (Japanese time).

2018-10-15 00:27:28 +0000 UTCI just watched his video where he nitpicks you. I am both proud, and honored to learn under you. And I can't thank you enough for creating these lessons.

2018-10-14 21:56:20 +0000 UTCAwesome! Was hoping to see this. Thanks for sharing ^^ Edit: On the subject of accent mistakes. Some time ago I mixed up the accent for 支障 (0) and 師匠 (1) in a conversation and the person had no idea what I was saying at first. Thanks to these lessons I was able to quickly correct my mistake. Before I studied accent I would have had no idea what had happened haha.

2018-10-14 01:38:26 +0000 UTCHi Nathan. Thanks for watching! It was kind of both—some things are easier to say in one language or the other, and other times we were just kind of switching back and forth based on the general flow of the conversation. Cheers! ^^

2018-10-14 01:35:06 +0000 UTCThat's awesome! I've seen his videos before (of you and a few others), I've been thinking I should get him to nitpick my Japanese, so... inspired by this post I've sent him a video, looking forward (not without some trepidation....) to what he has to say! Though I have to say I've already benefited: I've been freshly reminded how painful (and therefore effective) it is to watch video of myself talking...brrr... I clearly need to do more of this! (as you do recommend).

2018-10-13 23:52:53 +0000 UTCThis is so cool! Really looking forward to more! Edit: also, even aside from the content of the discussion, it's really fun listening to the two of you switching between English and Japanese throughout the conversation. Do you find that certain things are easier to express in one language or the other, or are you just switching kind of on a whim?

2018-10-13 23:13:17 +0000 UTCHe's got some good videos I've enjoyed watching. It'd be interesting hearing his (or other native speakers) thoughts on globalization/ evolution of the language, etc. I suppose he's touched on it at least. そうなんですね
