BREAKING FLAG NEWS: Minnesota Getting a New Flag!

Which of the three will it be?
As a resident, honestly I don't mind the removal too much. I am more irritated with the people who are using the whole flag change as an excuse to go off with some FF-tier racism on the Somali-Minnesotan community.

Looks like they also changed the star slightly. I like the new star, don't like the change in colors/removal of bars. But not my state so not my flag.

I’d like to see your flag take on old glory. Vexillologically speaking, it’s too busy. Too many stripes and stars. Yet, it has become so iconic that merely taking bits and pieces renders something unabashedly American.
Captain American’s shield consists of a single star in a blue circle and three round red and white stripes surrounding it. Yet if Captain American flings it towards your skull, you know it’s the might of America bonking you on the head. The NFL shield doesn’t even have stripes, but we all know that this is American football and the world’s greatest game. Sorry soccer. FIFA’s flag may have two balls, but you’re a wuss compared to the NFL shield. Uncle Sam’s hat is enough to know that it is America pointing its finger at you. Jack Bull can’t do it without the Union Jack plastered on his stomach.
The Stars and Stripes seems to break all the rules of flag design, but all over the world, it is unmistakable that it represents America.

I agree that you pick is the best one, and I’m not saying that to butter up to you.
I just saying that loon on the state seal is awesome, and thought it was a missed opportunity not to have a flag entry with that design.
Yes, flags shouldn’t have something in the state on the flag. Plus, it would look strange sideways. However, that awesome loon is too good to be hidden on a mere state seal where the public would only see it on letterhead telling you it’s time to renew your drivers license.
Putting it on the flag would make it a true symbol of Minnesota. It would be displayed on windows, t-shirts, and Minnesotans proudly flying their awesome flag. It could be incorporated on license plates. I’d proudly wear it and I’m not from Minnesota.

I don't love these but Star Rise is the best one. It would work better as a straight rather than wavy line, but the thin white separator is well established in good flag designs like the Gambia and has the added 'snow' signifier. It looks like a proper, if somewhat dull, flag.
Tricolor doesn't work for me, inverted triangle adds too much negative space, and evoking the shape of Minnesota is too cute in an eyerolling way. Estonia does the white edge thing too but it would've worked better with white in the middle, go for a sky-snow-land thing. Probably would've been better as a UAE-style bar on the side as the North Star backdrop.
Old Wavy is...just awful. It looks like the terrible logos French departements use. Hard pass.

I agree with the idea JJ McCullough made that odd-looking flags can be more endearing than over-designed modern flags. The wavy flag is an example of modern design being very compelling, too artificial looking. The tricolor is a good classic-looking modernization.

Am I nuts or is Star Rise giving Windows XP desktop background vibes??? I legitimately thought it was a prank entry. I look at it and hear the "DUN" Windows error noise. Help.

Star rise feels like it's a corporate logo for a retirement home or a chicken monopoly.

Starflake was my fav of the bunch. I think the tricolor was my second favorite though, and "Old Wavy" might have actually been 3rd. Don't know why Grey's hating on the curves so much

I also like "Old Wavy", though you've done a good talk up of Polaris Tricolor and made me like it a lot more than my first impressions.

As a Minnesotan I’m just devastated they killed starflake (although some Minneapolitans are talking about swiping it for use as a city flag since ours is so bad). If they pick old wavey, I might move—it’s so awful.
P.S. after you (hopefully) do your seal tangent, city flag rankings would be very fun to see

As I said last time, I don't agree with your criticism of Old Wavy. Though since these were my top three designs, I'm *very* happy with where this is going. Would be happy with any of these winning. I do hope Tricolor wins, but Old Wavy would be my second choice, and as long as one of the crazy variants doesn't win any of the three is good with me.

That being said, of current three, tricolor all the way.

A born and raised Minnesotan, it saddens me that the Wild colors (Forest green, iron range red, harvest gold, Minnesota wheat) weren’t used. It’s one of the best/most unique color schemes, and as an expat now nothing reminds me more of home as those quintessentially Minnesotan colors. Plus it would be a nod to our state sport!

In old flag news - I am still forever bitter how Seattle didn't listen to the voice of the people and pussied out of the adopting that orca flag.

I'm so sorry that Old Wavy ran over your dog, Gray. I understand that your opinion is warped by your grief.

I admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Polaris Tricolor but compared to the other 2, it looks unique. My only complaint is that the K reminds me of the Kodak “K”. Other than that, it’s quite solid.
