CGP Grey was Wrong

Awesome video. Also, if you ever make plushies of glitches, blunders, and Error Cataestrofagi, I would totally collect them

Nabila

One of my fav Grey vids, thanks!

craig smith

Just binged a lot of your videos, realized I hadn't liked them, backtracked and liked them, and then realized I could do you on better. Your combination of dry humor, extremely in depth research, and cool topic selection makes me happy to help how I can.

ReDOrk

The quote " the cost of perfection is infinite" resonated with me. In what context did your dad say this?

Melissa DAlia

Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. You create great videos. I think a correction note in the doobly-doo would suffice. But I'll never complain about getting an extra CGP Grey video. Keep up the great work.

TGBO

Really appreciate your relentless pursuit of accuracy. Perfection is impossible, but you're orders of magnitude closer than most informative youtube videos, and even those videos are still decent. And I, for one, prefer having more videos with the occasional slip over having one pretty perfect video in 2037.

Bobo Boom

There are a nice amount of comments.

Sparrow

Honestly, i'm really hoping this gets discussed further on Cortex cause I thought seeing behind the curtain was fascinating.

Jonathan Sundy

I was debating making this comment but my father was a Hercules employee in the 1980s and went to Tekoi on several occasions. It was nice to hear more about where and what he worked on. Even with getting the type of nuclear missile wrong it was still great work and great to hear about this site.

Victoria Tighe

Thanks for this. I, for one, appreciate the attention to detail that CGP Grey applies to these topics, and neither expect nor require perfection; a topic well explained with no overtly misleading falsehoods is entirely sufficient. But ownership of one's errors is fast becoming a lost art in an "information era" choked with factual errors followed by back-page retractions, or bald-faced instantly disprovable outright lies that are doubled-down on and never corrected at all.

Quantum Cat

I've been planning on supporting through patreon for a while now. This video brought me over the edge. I'm sorry for the exhaust it caused you but love how you handled everything :)

Ronwue

I think this shows how difficult military history, along with any applied technology history, is as a topic to write about. It is more than a gotya thing at that point as well, since many consumers will be most interested in exactly the details fudged a bit. Mention Sodium Hydroxide instead of a Potassium Nitrate and incur the rightful wrath of one researching historical uses of Nitrates as their main goal, even when you personally weren't too interested in that detail.

David Perek

I find this level of dedication to craft and humility so inspiring, especially right now. Thank you for this, and all the work you and your team do.

Sparrow

The anomation of mistakes and errors are so cute!! Would love to buy merchandise with them.

Thekla

Yes please!!

Thekla

Don't beat yourself up too much Grey, we appreciate the honesty and transparency. You are a meer human after all and we all make mistakes.

Max

There was a chompers Cameo?

Zach Arnberger

Me to man, Me to.

Zach Arnberger

Thanks for the honesty and transparency Grey. This is why your audience follows your work. We know we can trust you to put out well researched material, and correct any mistakes you make.

Zach Arnberger

This video and the re-uploaded Tekoi video have reaffirmed why I am a Patron of your channel. Thank you Grey.

SoloNana

I think you should feel proud of the work done to correct the error. It's videos like this that give me so much respect for your content. I wish so many others in the world held themselves anywhere close to your standards for quality.

Russell Spence

Could you please release the glitch sitting on your desk as a desktop wallpaper? I would love a reminder that glitches are a part of the creative process and nothing to be angry about. Thanks!

John West

Agreed. I'm upping my ante as well.

Holly M

Wow! I had absolutely no idea the effort that went into your videos since I've not gotten around to the commentaries.  I still found your original TEKOI video entertaining. Poor future Grey and his mechanical arm. He must have started the road to dismemberment when past Grey played too much Etch and Sketch.

Holly M

This was still a fun and informative video (I laughed pretty hard a few times). It's neat to get a glimpse into your processes too

KellyZ

I want to buy stuffed errors or collect them as pins

Erik Anderson

I would buy that shirt.

Andrew Gadsby Pauls

This was honorable. I personally am not someone who cares if there is an error like this in a video. I work in a place where if you let perfection get in the way, you will never get done. So I never would have thought of this as catastrophic and would have easily forgiven it. But the fact that you felt the need to do this video, because it meant something to your brand and your work, is everything. This made me upset my tier because this is worthy.

Brian Schuster

You never really know someone until you see how they handle making a mistake. Just want you to know, you have my respect sir.

Joshua Seaman

You should totally add to your shop shirts that say "The price of perfection is infinite" because HOO BOY does that apply widely.

DrWex

Grey has just produced the best explanation of grant writing that I have ever seen.

John DeAngelis

Check the first 5 seconds... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Friendly reminder that it's NOT normal to sneeze, I have never sneezed.

I appreciate your commitment to accuracy, it's one of the things that drew me to become a patreon of your channel. Thank you for fixing the video and explaining the mistake.

Ismaeel Ramzan

So....was that a Pascal quote, or a Franklin quote? Or....did my dimension change half way through watching? Google, here I come!

JoYKiLL

I missed it, what's the timestamp?

Ztpia

If I had more time, I would have figured out who it was that really wanted to write that shorter letter.

Halosty

Those Team Grey Bots need to be a wallpaper!

Paul F

Great as usual, but don't beat yourself up so much!

Robert J. Berger

I love this :)

Florian Kindslehner

That's kind of Grey's point about errors being different for different people. To him this is a catastrophic error. I'm inclined to agree with him and appreciate the correction, even though I'd never have known either way.

Abstract Aardvark

I always appreciate new videos, hence my Patreon support. I can't help but to think you're beating yourself up about this way too much. I think this is more of a blunder than a catastrophe. Sure, the factual information is wrong, but IMO, a very minor detail in the grand scheme of things. My main takeaway was "cool story behind a defunct military weapons testing site." Not, "this is the specific kind of weapon that was being worked on here." Like if you were to mention that National Lampoon's Vacation was about a road trip to Disneyland. Sure, they were going to Wally World, not Disneyland, but that doesn't really matter that much to the movie. It's about the road trip and familial dysfunction and whatnot, not theme parks. And to get a little meta, I enjoyed this video, not because of the cathartic apology, but because it's an interesting "behind the scenes" glimpse into your processes, and to some extent, your personality. And maybe that's the point?

Julia Allen-Hesse

Your best video, tbh. Really appreciative of your quest for perfection with the willingness to always fall just a bit short. I struggle with that a lot, and often times it keeps me from creating. A new quote hangs from my desk in sticky notes reading "The quest for perfection is infinite" - Grey's Dad, or Mark Twain, or whatever...

Tom Kelly

Love the Mr. Plinkett cameo!

Hello Internet #1 "Being Wrong on The Internet" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGa3ah03uBI

I Son-Tchor

I have to say, through your dedication and integrity, not only to your followers and Patreons, but especially with regards to the information you leave behind for everyone to find, you inspire me. This video contributed to a pile of reason I respect your work, and has directly caused me to increase my Patreon support. Thank you, and the team, for all that you do!

Peter van der Ham

Thanks for the high quality process. It really shows in the videos! Sure most of us appreciate it

Cribas_Trope

"No great work of art is ever finished" -- Michelangelo

Darren Pierce

I too appreciated the update, and it was great to see more about your process. But, what really caught my eye were the media machine and "top sneaky" images. Any chance of making those available as images to your backers??? Thanks in advance!

DT

Very happy to know that you're willing to risk the anger of YouTube to give your viewers an honest apology and correction. I didn't think the detail of which missile was tested there would make a difference, but this is a very different and fulfilling video. Thank you for your courage and honesty, Grey. This is why we love and support you and your channel!

Jon Boyer

Your work is excellent; that has always been apparent and this simply confirms it. I’m happy to be a supporter, and even happier to be a viewer!

C. A. Patrick Voigt

Me too :)

Tara Berry

I loved the Mr. Chompers cameo!

Tara Berry

So you sent me down the pit of "what is truth" with the attribution of the quote "If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter" to both Mark Twain and Blaise Pascal. Love the meta-commentary bookending the piece with those.

robert laporte

You just made a 18 min correction video, I'm so proud of being your patreon.

Fortune favours the bold

Charlie Barker

You did it right Grey, it’s all good now. Never been happier to support you.

Good to see the lengths you will go to if you spot an error. Most creators will shrug and move on, but the internet is (mostly) forever so for such a obscure topic, it is really impressive that you make the effort to ensure "the record" is straight. Never been so happy to be your patron :-)

Jim Cobb

will there be a director's commentary on this?

Marco Silva

I really don't care what types of missiles were tested there...the video was amazing and informative regardless! And still: thanks for acknowledging the error and fixing it ;) Oh and don't read the comments just before bed next time -- especially if you feel great about it!

Tangerine - they-them

So? It is a small mistake, and you corrected it, an annotation in the video would have done the job, chill out dude, your content is great! :)

Patrick C.

Engagement Gods be Damned. I’m watching the new one twice!

Jathby Dredas

i don't watch a lot of channel, but withing them, they are only 2 i can trust without fear, Kurzgesagt and you. You have once again comforted me in this choice. I just hop you will stop watching comment just before bed :)

Vlycop

In an age where misinformation is now a normal fact of life, it brings me hope to see that there are still some people who still care about delivering factual information.

Terry Olson

Alex Holcomb

Honestly while I think it’s awesome your willingness to admit your mistake. It wasn’t exactly like you had wealth of information you ignored. It’s on obscure testing site in the dessert. I enjoyed it none the less.

Alexander Dale

11:45 - shoutout RedLetterMedia

Casey Cook

I just saw it and I gotta say this filled me with confidence when watching your videos, to know that you can correct them (or at least to expect the expert in the comments to do so), I'm nothing sort of proud and happy to be your patron

Tell me it ain't so!
