Man, I did not mean to have left you for two whole months without something to step to. I was semi-working on this during my vacation but I got waylaid by a minor medical thing (I have a doctor's note, available upon request) plus this subject matter was, ha ha, a bit fraught. please check if I said anything wrong or fucked up anything

That depends, if he was ever one of P Diddy's party boys he may have some colorectal issues.

Jonathan Hunter

Gotta cover Metallica's Lulu first

Russet Burbank

I think the big problem with Biden, has nothing to do with Biden. It's that Americans view the President as having ruling monarch type powers but they don't. Biden has been able to make long-term effective federal policies, but hasn't been able to stop states and supreme court from stripping actual everyday rights from some people in some states.

Reena Setälä

Todd, I know you're on record of hating getting political, but don’t sweat it. Look at it this way - politics and music are one of the all-time classic combinations. Avoiding politics in your line of work is effectively impossible. I understand you don’t want to alienate anyone who’d otherwise enjoy your comedy, and that’s a noble goal, but really you didn’t bring these politics into the conversation - Kid Rock did. Any attempt to address Kid Rock without addressing what he’s become, without addressing all the… everything, would just be incomplete past the point of dishonesty. You wouldn’t be able to do that, and so here we stand. I’m sorry it’s uncomfortable, I’m sorry you’re unhappy having to do it, I hope your next episode is as apolitical as you could hope for, but here you made the right choice.

Michael Negranol

NC wouldn’t qualify anyway. You need to have a music career to wreck. If you want Todd to discuss Doug bad enough, give $ to the song vs. song patreon and nominate one of the channel awesome movies.

Richard Angle

There was a small part of the left that accused conservatives of over-hyping covid as an excuse to push anti-China sentiment. Obviously that argument disappeared quickly.

Richard Angle

Kid Rock shouldn't be shitting himself at 50. He's old but not that old.

Dirty Bastard Salad

Todd’s line about Fred Durst in the Crown Royale TW - “a boy” - applies to Kid Rock as well. Just remember Bob Seger at 50 for a comparison.

Jane Bostwick

I can’t believe you didn’t expose more people to the insanity that is Never Enough

Erik Danielson

YYYEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! FINALLY!

plusmin

"Please come to my bar and grill in a different city that I also hate."

SPBurke

I’m with you 100%, Harro. A big part of the problem is that our “liberal media” desperately misses Trump and will do anything to keep him viable. Biden being good at his job? Pfft, boring. Never mind that Trump would have these journalists and pundits sent to a camp if he had his way; they’d probably march through the gates happily as long as they got their clicks and views first.

Kristopher Bluth

Most people on the left in America like Biden just fine, or at least, like all those policies. But "leftist" typically means not just progressive, but socialist (or communist or anarchist or a combination thereof) and very little of Biden's agenda is much in that direction. And all that being said, most lefties in the US are primarily unhappy with Biden right now because of the US support of genocide in Gaza, which is also completely divorced from Biden's domestic policy agenda (and while most European governments are also supporters, they don't provide the massive material support that the US does, which has made the entire thing possible.)

Kim Stiens

Honestly, I don't get why you leftist Americans don't like Joe Biden a lot more. Bernie Sanders called him the "most progressive US president since FDR", and I believe he might be right on that (maybe disregarding LBJ). The build back better act did a lot to expand renewable energies for the USA. The stimulus checks during covid helped a lot of people stay out of poverty. The Inflation Reduction act forced Big Pharma to negotiate the prices of its medications with Medicare (and they hate that, they're still trying to get the courts to kill that part of the bill) and limited out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare recipients, both of which will save elderly Americans billions of dollars overall. And he did all of that while never having a comfortable majority in Congress (unlike most of his predecessors). Meanwhile, I am sitting over here in Europe with a government calling itself "liberal-progressive" while slashing every single social policy item off their legislative agenda in favor of slashing the budget at all cost, Reagan style. That led to a party run by actual Nazis becoming massively stronger, because their opponents simply aren't getting things done. Joe Biden actually gets things done for poor Americans, and I wish we had someone like that.

Harro

One of the funniest things to come out around this era is when, either Don't Tell Me How To Live or We The People came out, Weird Al Yankovic thanked people for the compliments he got for his recent Kid Rock parody, only to clarify it was actually Kid Rock. One way you can tell in particular: with all the F-bombs in these songs, since Weird Al doesn't swear, like, at all.

Tom Carter

Would that be the Alibi

John Rogan

Both the album and the song “We The People” were number 3 on Fantano’s worst songs/albums of 2022, and both were just behind Tom Macdonald.

Christian Reiswig

Kid Rock x Farrah Abraham collab when?

Christian Reiswig

Kid Rock sounds like he’s always about 5 seconds away from asking if I got my WOKE HAIRCUT at THE LIBERAL STORE

Christian Reiswig

I always hated Kid Rock. Always.

Carly Dingman

Yup good cop lol. All I can say is, I'm glad I put in the disclaimer that I made this comment before I watched, because Todd made a pretty good argument that this killed his career.

Gordon Stearns

I was waiting for you to mention how he was supposedly kicked out of his own bar in Nashville when he was complaining about Nashville being filled with assholes. I was there the day it happened and I remember everyone talking about it

Kathleen

slam dunk picks: logic: supermarket fall out boy: mania lil xan: total xanarchy (if todd ever wants to talk abt an album that killed a career before it could fully take off, this or playing with fire seem like the two most obvious picks) more genre specific then what most of todd covers but not impossible: muse: will of the people the revenge of hobo johnson highly suspect: mcid avenged sevenfold: life is but a dream fits the structure of a trainwreckord but perhaps not enough meat on the bone: imagine dragons: origins (the true trainwreckord here was overexposure imo) there's no way todd is touching this with a ten foot pole: linkin park: one more light nostalgia critic's the wall that said, i think him covering the big day is more likely then any of this, and while fantano technically gave it a 0 rather then a not good, i feel like the line between the two is kind of blurry (ie i would've totally expected the new katy perry album to get a not good and say. life is but a dream to get an actual score)

Arbor Rainier

i thought this too but did you get to the part of the video where todd discussed how much his sales figures plummeted ? that sold it for me

Arbor Rainier

see i actually was a decent sized kanye fan, with yeezus in particular being an album i really really enjoyed, but the problem i have with listening to him now (in addition to not wanting to support such a blatant bigot) is the fact that his lyrics are so. blatantly kanye ?? like there's a very minimal amount of songs by him that allow you to momentarily forget that you're listening to kanye west, and that's an issue if you fucking hate the man that kanye west has become (or by some accounts, has been the entire time)

Arbor Rainier

not to paraphrase Aaron Lewis, but am I the only one who can't stand All Summer Long? I fully acknowledge it's because of overplay, but I cannot emphasize enough how much I heard that song in Summer 08, especially for something that peaked at just 23 on the Hot 100 and 85 on the Year-End Chart

The Hand Of The People

yeah wasn't don't tell me how to live an actual song released around 2015 or so (with completely different verses and no political undertones but the same hook / general instrumentation) that scraped the bottom half of the mainstream rock charts ? i have to wonder how much monster truck actually wanted to butcher their one song to cross over in any meaningful capacity to the states and how much they just needed the check

Arbor Rainier

oh god is never enough the one with that horrifically applied autotune ?? was waiting the whole review for him to mention that (great vid overall tho !)

Arbor Rainier

same but getting into nascar (where the majority of the drivers, teams and personal are actively fans of trump, though the amount they're open abt it depends)

Arbor Rainier

LMFAO 😭

Arbor Rainier

Having a rough time after moving to a new country and this has been a lovely little light in my week, thank you Todd <3

Paul Looney

Yes if I have to be hyper aware of politicians all the time, democracy isn't working. Ideally I'd be aware of them for 2 months every 2 years and the rest of the time they'd just do their jobs.

Lanth

I mean honorable mention for "all these underage whores" because what the actual fuck, but "I think I just shit my pants" is I think a real competitor for "worst line of trainwreckords ever", going head to head with penius colada. Why would you put that in a song that you then publish, I can't even imagine the thought process.

Lanth

Yeah that made me blink as well.

Lanth

Eh, listening to it now. Worst thing I can say is it sounds very...Huey Lewis. I find that pop-y 80s production nostalgic, but some would say it's a bit too corny. Very, very 80s guitar solo. Just got to the end, yeah this is sort of a jam!

Anon’s A Ms.

Setting the timer for Katy Perry to make the first double entry into Trainwreckords

Jack Dover

"All these underage whores" made my jaw drop tbh.

Shiny Skunk

„At least you should know what _you_ think“ is a great line. Also didn‘t expect a reference for Messrs Meine, Schenker et all in a Todd video!

Albert Farkas

I love you.

Albert Farkas

Fair point lol

Anthachu

Were the travel restrictions in place through parts of ‘21, ie Biden‘s presidency? I don‘t know because I‘m from Europe.

Albert Farkas

This the anti-Witness.

Benedict Burgess

IT'S NEVER ENOOOOOUGH MONEY IN THE BANK

bail harp

I think he made a good argument for this being a career killer. He might have lost his relevancy years ago, but he still had a solid career. This gave him attention, but seems to have alienated his remaining fanbase.

Reena Setälä

My shameful confession is that I find Don't Tell Me What To Do hilarious. It's so over-the-top ridiculous and the only response I have is "Grandpa... Millennials are middle-aged now."

Shiny Skunk

Oh, I absolutely agree. It’s been nice to have sanity and competence back in the White House again. It’s not the job of governance to entertain people.

Kristopher Bluth

Do you see him coming back from this? I sure don't.

Jon Heiman

And they're both scared to dance / Because some fucktard in France / Designed their new lizard skin boots

Robert Lee

Wow, the rage is palpable in this one.

Anastasi

Todd’s already made more money on this album than Kid Rock did

Robert Lee

They're an Ontario band(from not far from where I live) and I listen mostly to the local rock station so I've heard them quite a bit

Angela

I’m Canadian and this song was the first and only time I’ve ever heard of them

Robert Lee

very funny that he calls a song 'bad reputation' yet the hook is clearly ripping off a different joan jett song.

Jordan Schmidt

I know sexism in Kid Rock songs is not new not particularly noteworthy but “all these underage whores” is another level.

C. Puffer

Biden did a lot of good considering the shitshow he inherited, I was proud to have voted for him.

RedBedroomRecords

no idea it's a fun song, way better then "Like a Rock"

RedBedroomRecords

you gave us Nickelback, Haywire, Lee Aaron, Helix and other great rock groups so all is forgiven.

RedBedroomRecords

Ok music wise we did ok but we also gave the world Jordan Peterson et al, Lauren Southern, the couple that paid Tim Pool to grift for Russia and other particularly rancid right wing grifters

Angela

You gave everyone The Guess Who and Gordon Lightfoot, so I think we can easily forgive y'all for that. (If my country can be forgiven for some of the awful stuff we sent to the states for the sake of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, I am sure Canada will be)

Joseph Adams

It does disguise the fact that he continued on a lot of the awful policies from Trump's presidency (which he inherited from Obama, who inherited that from George W Bush and so on, all the way back to Reagan). But we don't, and shouldn't, give the G.O.P. and 45 any credit for that; partly because they'll just keep doing it if they win this time, and partly because pointing out hypocricy doesn't win you bonus points

Joseph Adams

I was surpised not to see a mention that the synth opening to 'Don't tell me what to do' is a blatant ripoff of the bassline from the ending of The Chain, with the final note changed.

Joseph Adams

No idea. I love that song.

Jennifer Layton

I am so impressed with the amount of research and context that goes into your videos. This is another excellent one.

Jennifer Layton

I am Kloot need a bigger fanbase! Twist...snap!

Paul Woodcock

1) This honestly feels more like something that'd be created for a Wag the Dog-style parody than music meant to be listened to and enjoyed in the real world. 2) Playing in a Kid Rock cover band in a Kid Rock-themed restaurant in Nashville. My God, what'd you do to end up on that level of hell? 3) I don't want to go too far on a tangent here, but a big part of Biden's appeal is that he's boring, lame, and doesn't force us to spend every second being painfully aware of who the president is. In a rational world, the "let's put aside divisiveness and come together" talk would have worked after 2020, but since the Fuck Your Feelings crowd refuses to let Orange Jesus go, here we are...

Kristopher Bluth

Another excellent video Todd.

Amy Poli

I know it's a bit more esoteric but "It's time for love and unity!" really highlights Todd's point about how much of a poser Kid Rock is here. It's less obviously bad but spits in the face of the album's whole purpose

Bailey Vogt

"Black Lives Matter NO SHIT!"

Bailey Vogt

Hi, I'm a Brit but don't hold that against me! I don't much care for Todd's musical tastes - I'm a tad more perhaps esoteric - Mutemath, Adult Jazz, Christine and the Queens (who's last album was terrific), Diiv, I Am Kloot et al but I watch, and donate, because for me Todd is a funny fucker and his narratives and presentation is fantastic. Keep going fella! Just to add, Kid Rock is a c-nt!

Andy Webster

i've never been so happy to get the notifcation that another $10.52 was paid to patreon <3

Arbor Rainier

What else could qualify?

Judgesaturn507

I appreciate the evolution of this series from just 'this is the bad album' to 'this is all the cultural context surrounding the bad album'. Makes these videos feel so much fuller, like they earn their runtime. ...At the same time I love when Todd just suspends his video essay-ness and throws tomatoes for a bit.

Judgesaturn507

Completely agree on both points. I’d gladly wait like a week to watch a version of this video that has Todd’s reaction to Never Enough, lol.

Rei The Gei

Easily 'I THINK I JUST SHIT MY PANTS'

BlackCat1989

If you play it smart, it seems like rightoids very much take care of their own. It's a beautiful symbiosis. You keep them angry and riddled with spite enough to survive another day without the grandkids visiting, they give you money. It works. We all assumed Kirk Cameron died of lethal Christ poisoning after Saving Christmas but I looked him up the other day and he's doing amazingly well among his chosen audience. Maybe if I felt insecure enough about being 50 to write a song with diaper jokes about it, I'd have my eye on some of that MAGA retirement money too. Maybe I'd halfheartedly throw out some shit I don't really care about, with my whole chest, see if that does anything.

Clementine Danger

Okay, could someone please explain to me what's wrong with Bob Seiger's 'Shakedown'? Now, I'm not a huge Seiger fan, and of all his big singles it's probably my favorite, but I keep hearing it's one of his worst songs like it's a known fact and I'd like to know exactly why if anybody has any idea.

George E. Schneider

26:40 Are you sure it isn't "fight like a G"? It would make more sense, it rhymes better, and I can't hear a 'p' at the end (but I'm terrible at making out lyrics). Jeeps *were* originally WWII military vehicles, though they were more famous for killing their joyriding passengers than the enemy. 17:26 There was the old late-'60s/early-'70s peak of assertively anti-left music: "Okie From Muskogee", "The Ballad of the Green Berets", and much more notoriously "The Battle Hymn of Lt. Calley". 19:02 It sounds like the dilemma of the guy who is (or at least was, in 2021) perfectly happy to move on from Trump to something more normal, someone who possibly never loved much of Trump's worst in the first place, but who isn't willing to betray or break from the Red Tribe, and who personally is unwilling to be seen to admit that he did anything wrong in supporting Trump. That would explain the confrontational parts being more "fuck me? No, fuck YOU" than anything substantive. [edited to add:] 23:10 I assume that "Bad Reputation" is partly about the reaction to his 2017 "wheels up" social-media post https://x.com/KidRock/status/891770708350644224 https://www.facebook.com/kidrock/photos/a.481255485048/10155379037905049 , in which he posted a photo of himself in his private jet with several err party girls. It doesn't seem to have quite made the mainstream news but it did get a lot of flak on social media, partly because ... oh God that's right, isn't it? I'd forgotten this bit! ... he was mulling a run for the US Senate at the time.

Leo Comerford

FUCK ALL YOU HOES DETROIT 'TILL I DIE, MOTHERFUCKER

BlackCat1989

"MY KIND OF COUNTRY HAS A TRUMP AND A JFK

Jasper Phua

Through first viewing It'll probably be "I think I just shit my pants" because it's the only one I actually remember but I feel like once this digest one of the few "let's come together" lines will take that spot

Nir revel

"Wow harsh burn for the people there." GOLD

Taylor Abrahamse

I've been keeping up an ultimate "Worst Lines of Trainwreckords" list that includes such examples as "peñius colada", "modren man", and most recently, Justin Timberlake being ““dirty””, aka stupid with "No, this ain't the clean version". If you are reading this, have the time, have watched this new episode, and think you know what the worst line of lyrics from the covered album is that is in this episode, I would appreciate leaving a reply with your opinion. I want to get an accurate consensus.

JasSpy

I got really into country music this year and it's been difficult grappling with how much less hated Trump is in that world.

Jacqueline Sailer

Yup, he did and I just realized your profile name is a Loss reference

Juhani Aho

Never Enough makes Pop Champagne sound like Travis Scott in comparison.

Juhani Aho

"A liar would pander more successfully and an honest man would be more relatable, but a poser just gains no respect." Now that's a quote right there. Also, come on Todd, nothing about Never Enough, one of the songs of all time?

Juhani Aho

At first I was confused that Todd didn't know who Monster Truck are, but then I remembered they're Canadian so they get legally mandated radio play here, so I really shouldn't be surprised that that don't have much of a footprint in the US Also on behalf of all of Canada I apologize for inflicting *THAT* on you XD

Angela

I guess, I just remember that being a right wing talking point and it would fit with the previous two lines being “But COVID's near, it's coming to town, we gotta act quick, shut our borders down”

Tiny Bubbles

As someone who always disliked Kid Rock even back when he was actually considered "cool", I guess I feel . . . okay, I was going to say "vindicated", but to be honest, I don't feel any kind of way about this. Granted I was already out of high school by the time "Bawitdaba" hit, but I always found him utterly ignorable. He made blandly noisy, tuneless music about partying, but it was never a party I wanted to be at because he just looked like he smelled of unwashed scrotum 24/7. I was vaguely aware that he was still around and that he was a vocal Trump supporter, but otherwise he hasn't really been on my radar in twenty years, and I can see that I haven't been missing out on anything. To me, Kid Rock just always was and always will be a mediocrity.

Citizen Calmar

China had already shut down travel themselves after COVID happened so that's not what he was referencing so i don't think Todd missed the point.

RedBedroomRecords

We arguably abandoned that already when Todd did Funstyle.

Jasper Phua

millennials are mostly in their 30s but yeah that was outdated too.

RedBedroomRecords

I see it as a compliment.

RedBedroomRecords

Personally I was never a big Kanye fan even at the beginning so it wasn't hard for me to cut him out, I like a few songs here and there but I never felt a desire to listen to a full album of his all the way through and never felt like I was missing much.

RedBedroomRecords

Just wanted to point out that when Eminem did his whole participation trophies rant he wasn't actually being serious like Kid Rock was, that whole song was about his Slim Shady persona saying deliberately offensive things which Eminem himself does not actually believe in real life, it's sad how many people miss the point of that song.

RedBedroomRecords

Part of me feels like you missed the point on the whole "when Trump closes the border, he's racist!" I think in that context he's not talking about the southern border closures and everything he's said about it, he's talking about how back in February 2020 he restricted travel from China as COVID was starting to spread and the media called him racist for it I think, idk maybe I'm off base

Tiny Bubbles

He makes a pretty good case for it. (still kinda funny that I don't think he's ever done a OHW that was less than 10 years old but he's done at least three Trainwreckords like that)

Russet Burbank

I don't know that this is a career for Rob Richie anymore, is the point. It's his job now.

Noelle Harrison

that JFK and trump line made me legit go WHAT THE FUCK at my screen..... the last line to do that was the robin Williams line crazy town did

duke86fan

I actually did hear of Monster Truck(Dee Snider recommended them) and as someone who genuinely liked them it was really dissapointing to see them ruin their good name by giving Kid Rock permission to use their music in that piece of shit song, there were a lot of people who were really pissed at Monster Truck's vocalist Jon Harvey for co-singing Kid Rock's garbage lyrics and when others in the industry rightfully called him out for it he made some really pathetic mealy-mouthed and cowardly defenses of the collaboration. If anything their reputation took a bigger hit then Rock's did, he was already kind of a joke even before that song hit but people actually respected Monster Truck but they became persona non-grata to many people once they showed they were willing to align with a wackjob like Bob Ritchie.

RedBedroomRecords

I can't figure out if that is an insult or a compliment

Lanth

i actually do remember First Kiss, heard that song quite a bit on my local rock station and I was excited by the direction of that album it seemed like he was aging gracefully, Sweet Southern Sugar there was a little bit of his resentment towards his detractors that showed up on songs like "Po Dunk" but for the most part it was easy enough to ignore, sad that he sold his soul to a movement that ultimately didn't seem to pay much attention to him.

RedBedroomRecords

Him mocking millennials is also about 20 years out of date. Why is a 50 year old mocking 40 year olds?

Robert Lee

it was dated the moment it came out as the COVID references were already outdated, like in "We the People" he mocks people for putting on masks when the masking requirement was already pretty much gone when this album dropped.

RedBedroomRecords

agreed

RedBedroomRecords

it's the James Somerton video

Str00p

Of all the Trainwreckords episodes, this one I find the hardest to sit through I wish I could look at the faces I was making when Todd was letting the music play

Garf H.

It’s amazing how dated this album sounds considering it only came out two years ago

Robert Lee

Could I suggest you turn up the level on your commentary? I just started listening, and I turn up the volume to hear you and then a music sample will come on twice as loud.

Russet Burbank

Remember, folks. When people like Kid Rock say "peace, love, and understanding," they mean "Shut up, Libturd." Treat them accordingly.

Keith Badje

I'm ashamed to admit it but I did laugh at the "I just shit my PANTS" lyric on that one song

Charles Kieser

(Commenting before I watch). I see we have abandoned the 'career killer' criteria entirely.

Gordon Stearns

"Screw you whiny children and pronoun snowflakes! We all need to get along and celebrate the diversity of America!"

Gideon Weinerth

When you said ‘No YOU shut the fuck up!’ that was so cathartic.

Elena plionis

Genuinely surprised you didn't mention and mock Never Enough, the song with the awful autotune. It's an easy target but still stands out for how hilariously terrible it is

J. Tay

The reveal of the album debuting at #124 and your reaction to it made me laugh so hard.

The Unmitigated Dawn

I like the tone you went with at the end, there's no other appropriate reaction than just "pathetic". Btw I apologize for the negative comment on the last video, I watched it again and I understood it a lot better.

Cody Baird

Todd, I'm quite disappointed you didn't mention the autotuned pile of shit known as "Never Enough". It has to be heard to be believed.

David Claiborne

Shakedown honest to god would fit on the 2005 Shadow the Hedgehog game soundtrack.

Dan O'Neill

This is the perfect spiritual successor to your video on Aaron Lewis and I’m here for it. I think you nailed it perfectly. I remember a tweet(?) from you back when I was still on Twitter where you genuinely asked if Kid Rock riding the MAGA train was genuine or if it was just a costume, a marketing ploy. I had always wanted to hear you speak more on that and this video did that. This also felt similar to the Arrested Development or the Hootie episode, where you’re more or less trying to solve the mystery of why something like this exists to begin with (and failed), rather than just explain why and how it failed. This episode was a real surprise and I loved every minute of it. Hope vacation was good, Todd.

AnalogSkullerosis

Mostly save that for fradulant content creators Dang- is that a shot at debate bros?

Man In The Wall

Huh. I'd have never guessed a Conservative rapper makes shitty music. Such a rarity, nowadays.

Herbieguy98

A little early for this one yeah? Not complaining but just curious is all.

Anthachu

Didn’t Fantano give this album a Not Good? Guess this is the first Trainwreckord of the 2020’s to be covered on the show.
