TRAINWRECKORDS: "0304" by Jewel
Added 2017-10-20 05:31:48 +0000 UTC
Trying a little something new. This is a new show I wanted to do about career-killing albums. The original title of the show was gonna be "SHIT SANDWICH" but I figured this would work better
/edit Hey, I wanted to apologize for the editing errors. I really need to do better here, I seem to be forgetting one last step that takes out the layered videos more and more often lately, and you, my paying customers, deserve better than that. I promise this is not a thing that's going to keep happening.
I like this new series and this is an excellent premiere episode. Looking forward to more.

I know I sent you this on Twitter, but *please* do Funstyle by Liz Phair. It’s the cringiest album I’ve ever heard.

This is awesome, looking forward to the new series!

That was my first thought when Todd announced it!

So, how long before people start requesting the entirety of the Train discography, thinking they're being clever?

Awesome job, and great idea for a series! I'm trying to think of some other career killers.

What's with all the 2's and U's? Was she trying to be... Prince? I completely missed this part of Jewel's career, thank the Lord. I actually enjoyed her late 2000s pop-country album, definitely a better fit for her than dance diva. Really digging this new series!

Yay! Really enjoyed it, though I'm sorry you had to hit your hand?! Looking forward to more if you decide to keep this new series going. Thank you Todd!

I like the idea and the video. It's like the opposite, sustained-success side of the OHW coin. I'm definitely down for seeing more

Love this! Keep up the good work, Todd!

You + Me = Love? She was even ripping off fictional boy bands like 2gether.

Awesome idea! Hope to see more of it

Weird, I don't know what's causing that, I'm reuploading and hopefully that corrects it.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that "America is too hard on child rapists" was one of the stances that the record executives were okay with.

I love the new series idea so far! Can't wait to see what other albums/careers you explore with it. :D

Number of times you seem to forget to fade out the shot of you at the piano behind the accompanying video :/

I like the new series! I've long wished for Todd reviews of well-established (rather than OHW) but no longer current artists. If there's going to be a second version with the audio and video fixes mentioned above, could I venture to suggest that there be added a clip of a Serve the Ego dance remix? I think it would help the narrative. Great work as always Todd!

I had a big ole crush on Jewel Kilcher that I nursed from "Pieces of You" right until . . . about five minutes after hearing this the first time. I still remember those first three albums fondly, but never went back. Sad.

I love how she spelled her '2 Become 1' exactly like the Spice Girls. It just screams "I'm not even trying".

Failed Follow Up the series! Nice! Someone else mentioned this, but I also didn't hear any audio during the clip of the interviewer correcting her about the definition of casualty.

That was fun. Looking forward to this new show. I did have audio issues though: watching on mobile, did not have audio of the clip in which the interviewer corrects her on "casualty".

Yeah, I was going to comment on that, it's incredibly distracting, thanks to the contrast between your silhouette and the light background wall, and just took me entirely out of the video.

I don't think Jewel oversigns at all and I quite liked 0304 as that was my introduction to her.
My suggestion for the next episode-, Liz Phair's self-titled 2003 album, even as someone who likes it I totally get why people were turned off by it, it was a complete 180 career move for her.

I highly approve of this series! I suspect we're to expect Encore at some point, right?

Are the lyrics not "Follow your heart, bay-bay?" Or are you saying Jewel sings that line really badly?

Not sure how many albums there are that fit the format, but I LOVED this video. I always appreciate your more analytical videos, and going into music history. Hope to see more Todd.

This was a good review, but I noticed a technical difficulty. Nearly everytime there was a Pillar Box of Jewel's footage, I'd see you at the keyboard in the background, but only on the left side of the screen.

Not sure how many albums really fit the series, but I enjoyed this. Great to see something new.

"Trainwreckords"....I like it. And it makes more sense if we are talking about career-killing albums. I'm excited for this new addition!
