POP SONG REVIEW: "I'm the One" and "Wild Thoughts" by DJ Khaled

Another one!

(Side note: The state of the world is intense right now and it's not always easy to make stupid jokes but I hope y'all enjoy this one)

POP SONG REVIEW: "I'm the One" and "Wild Thoughts" by DJ Khaled

Comments

I just heard that Lil Wayne had a seizer. Hope he's ok.

Oh my gosh, that sample from Wild Thoughts had been scratching at the back of my head for weeks! I'm so glad to finally know where it came from.

For me, it was the "2009 Bieber" reference. Man, that does not feel all that long ago and I feel old. Reminds me of - holy crap four years ago! - your review of "Cruise", about Nelly being nearly 40 and so forth.

Brett

Holy craaaap that Honest Trailers bit...actually I gotta say, the way you use your comedic analogies have always been some of my favorite. <3 Thanks for all the hard work broski!!

The back of Todd's hood looks like a face and it's freaking me out. Are you now the two-faced Roman god Janus, Todd?!

One of your best reviews so far this year. Thanks for giving us some joy in all the disasters of the real world.

Gordon Stearns

Oh my god, this is one of the most laugh-out-loud Todd videos in a while. The Honest Trailer part had me in pain.

Will Seamon

With "I'm the One", it has the boy-band-love-song problem, where each of these guys individually is claiming to be the one, but they can't all be the *one*. Also, Lil Wayne's verse takes the Bonnie/Clyde metaphor and somehow makes it worse.

Todd, I just wanna say that your videos lift my spirits in these terrible times. Keep making content. It's needed.

Patrick McMahon

I'm not any kind of anti-sampling purist or anything, but it feels like such a disservice to Santana to lift his most memorable guitar lick of the last two decades and not bring along his legendary tone for the ride.

Joe G

If the natural cycle of things is to be preserved, then 00s sampling shouldn't become a ubiquitous staple in pop music until at least another 4-5 years. I won't be unironically embracing that inevitable trend myself until we're in the 2020s, as it would correlate with the 20-year rule of cultural nostalgia. I suggest everyone else follow suit! :p

I appreciate the levity and the distraction as always Todd. I enjoyed the discussion on this one too. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the Maria sampling... maybe if they made an effort to change it up a little more? Idk.

Deanna Banana

Thanks for making the videos it helps with the madness.

Not to be a killjoy but towards the end of their careers, Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan did have strong feelings towards each other. Whole thing about Miss Elizabeth.
