I loved hearing about your filtering process for picking topics! When things are slow at work, we like to do things like pitch video ideas for our "hypothetical YouTube channels" to each other to keep things interesting. There's a big difference between what makes something interesting enough to let your friend ramble about and what is actually a topic that warrants the level of research and analysis that a video essay needs.

2026-02-11 17:17:42 +0000 UTCI think some of these requests where it seems like there wouldn’t be anything new to say or a thesis to argue might come from a different expectation of your videos. Rather than: I want to hear Sarah Z’s unique take on this topic, the people making these requests are thinking: I don’t really understand this internet phenomenon and it keeps being referenced elsewhere, and it’s impossible to find the beginning of it to figure out what’s going on - it sure would be great if Sarah Z, a youtuber I like and trust, would summarise it for me! Which, on the one hand, kind of underestimates your videos, but on the other hand, after your homestuck video I understood some references/jokes on tumblr that I didn’t before 🤷🏻♀️
