2025-02-03 22:25:43 +0000 UTCI'm reminded of the George Santayana quote: "Whenever a nation is converted to Christianity, its Christianity, in practice, must be largely converted to paganism." Literally the only time any of the ethical doctrines of Christianity are brought up in the God's Not Dead cinematic universe and they're immediately dismissed as completely irrelevant to whatever "Christianity" is to these people, which is seemingly just a set of aesthetic tribal identity markers.

2025-02-01 01:41:42 +0000 UTCIt probably shouldn't be a surprise at this point but I did have a bit of a jaw drop when they just straight up said they're not interested in what Jesus espoused or believed people should do, he's essentially just a mascot for the entirely distinct ideology they've built. A real "oh my god he admit it!" moment, though of course the fact they're willing to admit it is a sign we're at the point where they no longer feel the need to pretend otherwise which is pretty damn chilling

Why affiliate with Christianity, when you truly only serve the patriarch, unbridled-- power, authority itself, and the ability of the patriarch to wield it, belt-like, over citizens as children of the state. I am deeply unimpressed by fascists. Unfortunately, I still live in the state they are trying to reshape in their image.

I wasn't raised in any religion and even back then I thought it was pretty insulting and insecure how invested these people are in proving their God exists to others. like where is your religious community Dave? what's going on with them while you're galavanting off to DC every other year? If Kevin wanted to make a movie exploring divinity, Christian understanding of divinity, and the conflicts that arise from different understandings, a religious school/class would be a great setting. But they choose over and over again to make 90 minutes of evangelical West Wing dunk speeches. it doesn't sound like they love God or the teachings of Christ, it sounds like they love proving they're better than you. Love the videos Big Joel!!
