Yep, it's from a real Japanese fairy tale that Oda took some inspiration from. The word used in both series is "Oni", which doesn't have quite the same meaning as what most English-speaking people would think of as a demon or an ogre.
It might be better to say that Kaido, Yamato, Rem, and Ram, are all Oni.

A nice little trope you heard about not too long ago in another series was presented here. Notice Kaido is saying Yamato is an ogre's child, has no friends, and that Yamato can not be friends with humans. Where have we heard the stories of 2 ogres trying to befriend humans before? 🤔
