2019-04-21 05:52:19 +0000 UTCZ the character is canon, it's stated in Vol 1000 that Hina (34) and Smoker (36) are among the last several students of Zephyr besides Ain and Binz. Borsalino (58) and Sakazuki (55) are his first students. Kuzan (49) is among the third wave of Zephyr's students. The debate comes down to if his backstory is canon or not, it's said that the 7th warlord joined during the timeskip and since he was actually teaching students it would make sense that his backstory is canon as well. Since there is a new 7th warlord that hasn't been revealed yet, a lot of people take this as further proof that he is canon. Also the backstory was done by Oda so people consider it as canon. The only reason some people don't consider it canon is because there is no reference to the back story in the manga or anime.

And that short scene with him as a kid, saying he's a hero named "Z"... That broke me... Even when he lost all hope in the world, he was secretly still hanging on that innocence from back then... Still hoping to become the hero he was dreaming of growing up to be..

And I don't recall Oda saying anything about Zephyr, whether he is canon or not(if someone has any link to an interview / SBS please do share it with me) I would like to believe he is though, cause I loved him. I'm happy that you liked the movie! It's my second favorite ❤️
