Early version of my next video for all you lovely folks. Nightmare, this one. Accidentally spent entirely too much effort on it imo.
Notes very welcome. If the colour of any images seem a little weird, that will be fixed in the live version (editing software not playing nice with image formats). The patreon thanks/credits aren't in yet, along with some extra images that will be added near the end of the video & one or two other things I may change, but everything else is mostly there.
Disabling my patreon and going on a break from video projects for a month, but I will return after a rest.

Hi Shaun, thanks so much for doing what I could not (as I just don't have the strength...I am drained by the rampant transphobia in my day-to-day). I have long suspected KJK was a sociopath because quite a number of years ago now, I saw her interview with Triggernometry (a channel I can't stand, for the most part) and at one stage she referred to trans people as being mentally ill. I thought the, most people would feel sympathy for those who had an illness and probably only a sociopath would not. She is truly one of the vile characters of our time and I can't really bear to follow her. Thanks for doing such a great video. I wonder if your work ever gets through to the bigots and the misogynists? 🤔 I hope it reaches a few anyway.

I had to turn the volume all the way up to hear you better and then turn it down again when you had your first clip of someone else speaking, then back up again etc. Maybe just a problem on my computer, but just FYI!

2023-07-03 15:19:55 +0000 UTC16:24, furthest right is Angela Jones, former friend of myself & others in my circle, she used to be a hanger on in lefty spaces but her own participation in activism had been mostly nimby environmentalism but since 2018 has been openly anti-left, she used to claim she was a trans ally but just didn't think they should be in women's space but now she is full transphobe & pivoting to anti lgbtq+ in general. Interesting that she was showing agreement with Posie's claims that the nazis were fake, but she knows exactly who they are. But let's face it, now Ange is to TERFdom in Australia what Thomas Sewell is to NSN, & make no mistake, she is doing it for the attention/notoriety.

The anti-Kellie crowd outnumbered her supporters by at least 10 to 1. The only violence was when one of Kellie’s goons pushed a woman around. He should have been charged with assault. Also not a Nazi in sight. She complained that Tas Police weren’t doing anything to help her but it isn’t a crime in Tasmania to shout loudly while protesting which is what the pro-trans crowd did. They drowned out Kellie-Jay and she got very annoyed and shouted that ‘this was the worst place she had ever been, worse that Scotland, worse than Chicago’. That statement become a badge of honour for most Tasmanians though I guess we probably lost it once she hit New Zealand. Or well, we were the worst place for a week.

One thing that struck me, however, was KJK's fondness for talking about "the storm" that would be unleashed against her enemies, which is a pretty central facet of the QAnon storyline. I only know UK libel laws by reputation, so I have no idea how they actually work, but it seems like the kind of thing Rowling could deny and make a stink about if she hasn't explicitly said that (though again, it's obvious that's what she means).

I don't know what your process was, but for projects like this in the future I hope there's some kind of tool to like, export auto-generated closed captions for videos and scan through them for relevant sections to watch more closely, rather than having to absorb every hate-filled second of hundreds of livestreams in order and take manual notes. Great work, hope the break goes well, you've earned it.

You do use “woman” at 29:14 when talking about 6 week bans, in case that’s something you’d want to change. I am currently watching for the first time, so may be back with other stuff in case you’re looking for notes, but I also want to thank you so much for this. As a trans person, the idea of pouring through research about people who want me annihilated is exhausting at best. I cannot imagine the toll this must’ve taken on you, but there are few cis people I’d trust as much with a project like this, and of course it is incredibly important. Thank you for the work you do. If you’d like to pause your patreon, it’s up to you of course, but if you have a Kofi or anything, I hope you post it for those of us who’d like to continue supporting you during your more than earned break.

2023-06-30 05:18:08 +0000 UTCI think the repetitiveness is actually important to drive the point home that Kellie-Jay has been like this for a very long time and is very firmly set in her ways, with no intention of changing, to really cement how appalling it is that this is the kind of person JK Rowling openly chooses to support financially. That said, it is a little odd that Shaun brings up "Hands Across the Aisle" twice, each time as though he's bringing it up for the first time. A little edit to the second time around should fix that, though, I think.

Rowling, people will try and play the plausible deniability game, so the only way to combat that is to just keep showing evidence so that people will put the pieces together.

This is something of a pedantic point, but around 9:45 minutes you say “detransitioners are people who transition, and then later regret transitioning.” I can look for studies, but I’ve seen figures stating that a large percentage of people labeled “detransitioners” detransitioners for other factors, like social pressures or financials. And even of the others, many do state they don’t regret having transitioned or beginning to transition. It might be a better idea to define them as “People who at some point during the process of transitioning return to living as their assigned sex at birth” or something along those lines.

I think this will become the definitive deconstruction of KJK + the present UK anti-trans movement, and with any luck, a gamechanger. as a v minor crit-- I wonder if there's a way to flag the structure a bit more in the first section? I felt a little adrift in all the (very necessary) exposition. also, I loved how you started w 3 big questions and mb it would be worth flagging more explicitly when you answer them. finally, I remember you saying in a stream that one of your goals for this video was that after watching it, no one in the GC movement would be able to claim KJK isn't a fascist/ignorance about their own links to fascism. I found that very powerful and I wonder if it could even be a note to conclude on? in any case, an incredible video.

Only suggestion I'd make is to perhaps have a bit after the antisemitism angle that sums up the throughline from the outright anti-semitic guy to KJK. The video already makes this clear, but you're bound to be accused of engaging in guilt by association so it might be useful to really make explicit what argument you're making.

I don't think it affects anything, but just figured I'd flag it to let you make the call over whether to leave it as is or change it.

If Gillick competence is eroded, next is informed consent for adults with learning disabilities, then autism, older adults with impairments following strokes etc. Gillick competency and informed consent procedures have been developed from a long history of horrible and abusive medical practices which we need to make sure we don't go down the road of again.
