The Golden Tower looks somewhat tall from the outside, but from the inside there are a thousand floors. It's miles high, reaches to the sky and through the clouds.
A thousand years ago, a humble ziggurat only a few feet tall, now a temple for a god exiled from the heavens and doomed to remain on the ground. They say an Angel, the one who wants to free the God, sits at the very top, chained by light.
The tower is home to the cultists, who also use the tower as a pilgrimage to the top. Inside the temple, no sound can be heard. Everyone and every step is as silent as possible. No word is spoken, but when the cultist invite you in, you understand that, in this sacred place, a drop of the golden liquid from the giant bowl in the hall must be added to your foreheads.
The Tower is a thousand years old, and each year, the cultists raise the tower and add a new level at the bottom, using some sort of magic to push the tower skyward. Until the next addition, they work in repairing the tower with gold veins (see Kintsugi) and in constructing the next level with the materials from the quarry nearby.
With every new level, the Angel is a step closer to reach the sky and freeing the God.
As you climb higher, you see more and more golden crack and veins, signifying the passage of time. It's a weird sight, almost as if these golden veins were corrupting the tower. You feel the stone walls pulse, like a living giant, with veins of liquid gold running through every crack.
But the higher you go, the stranger things become. Whispers tickle your mind. You wonder if the tower is calling you up, urging you to join the silence.
All levels are interchangeable, and through the journey, the heroes will need to climb hundreds of levels. Explorers also get all transparent files. Use them at will, but here is the suggested order:
1 Hall
Grand marble vestibule, open and clean space. Pilgrims perform the anointing ritual here.
2–3 Open Galleries A & B
Big open chambers.
4 Habitation
Small, private, individual rooms and an altar where they pray.
5 Essence Storage
Enormous reservoirs of essence. Pipes come and go from the walls.
6 Cells
Small, individual cells where captives stay, enclosed by powerful magic.
7 Essence Extractor
This machinery is where prisoners are drained from their essence and pumped into the structure and vessels.
We will release part 2 soon, explaining more about the purpose of the tower, but here are a few notes you can use already.
Why come here?
Pilgrimage or prayer.
Powerful holy weapons and artifacts forged at the top.
People that enter the tower are not coming back, and you need to investigate. Cultists are trapping visitors to feed the tower and convert them into silent slaves.
Trade divine-infused gear or materials. This is mainly how the cult is funded.
7 Golden Tower Levels
They are vertically modular and can be repeated, interchanged to fit your own adventure.
2 Variations (Clean and Veins)
Transparent version of all levels
Explorer Tier (+ Transparent Levels)
