Whale Hunters Butchering Camp | Part 2

Hey everyone! Here we go with the second part of the Whale Hunters Camp. We added a butchering camp where the whalers take their trophy and process them.

Building your encounters

This map is part of the same setting about Flying Whales. Even though all of these can be used without whales, here are some suggestions of all releases that are related:

Whale processing

When a whale is hunted, the whalers reel the rope from the ballistas while the whale slowfalls to the ground. This is a very precise work and takes a long time to perfect, otherwise, if the whale falls far away from the camp, they will have to use magic or animals of burden to tow the corpse to the camp, and potentially leaving a blood and destruction trail in the way, which is not ideal due to the illegal nature of this activity.

When the whale is into position, the team starts building scaffoldings around the body and start skillfully cutting the skin with polearms, knives and saws.
They process everything, from blubber and bones to baleen, which is then sold in the black market for a big profit.
The meat may be poisonous to most humanoids, but can be given to animals and other beasts.
The fat is melted in the big furnaces, called trywork, that the whalers carry in big carts. This allows them to preserve the blubber in good condition and in smaller portions for easier smuggling.

The most valuable part of the whale is the spermaceti, which is used for candles, oils that remain liquid in freezing temperatures, cosmetics and medicines. These need to be processed in specialized labs, so it's smuggled raw.

All this work needs to be done fast, usually in a few days, because it can attract not only the attention of local authorities, but also hungry beasts. The team is capable of defending themselves, but usually they also hire mercenaries for protection.

Mix and match battlemaps

This map can be seamlessly combined with the Whale Hunter Camp Battlemap for an extra large map. More info about the whalers in that post.

Some variations can be mixed for more versatility, so for example you could have the Whaler Camp without the Giant Ballista, and then the Clean Butchering Camp variation. Or you can go with the Empty Variation in one side, and the Camp Variation on top. Adapt the map to your needs.

There are also variations that are less gore, just in case you don't like seeing the insides of that poor whale, and other variations with no whale at all, so you can use it as an empty forest clearing battlemap, or a camp battlemap.

That's it. Enjoy!
