Accuma Skyport

Hey everyone! Today we are ultra excited to share our latest creation. We've been working on this since we released our Flying Whale map. There is a lot to talk about, so I'll try to be as concise as possible.

This is the Skyport of Accuma (more on that later), basically an airships docks in the sky. This is based in Accuma, one of the settings we are creating. But it's not only an airship port, we also made some variations with water for regular ships as well if your setting is not placed in a sky city and it's rather a regular sea or ocean harbor.

Building your encounters

This map is part of the same setting about Flying Whales. Even though all of these can be used without whales, here are some suggestions of all releases that are related:

Orca Riders - Inocyde Collaboration

We are very pleased to announce that this map is a collaboration with Inocyde, a very talented artist who creates truly unique content and that we have been following for a while.
When I started developing Accuma Skyport, I knew he was the one to collaborate with to make another sky whale.
He made Namagis, Orca Riders. If you want to know more about this whale, you can find more info in his Namagis Orca Riders Patreon post.

So, why this collaboration? Well, if your party is gonna ride the flying Orca, they are gonna need to rest somewhere, and Accuma Skyport is the place to do so. Check out down below an example of how you can combine both maps.

Please visit his Patreon and support his awesome work. It's totally worth it!

Accuma

Accuma is a city built around a giant spire that stands very tall on green plains. The spire itself is hollow. Most services and infrastructure are built on the inside, while most living and gathering places are built over hanging platforms like nests or embedded in the rock on the outside. The city has a single and very controlled entrance at the bottom and is reserved only for very special occasions or heavy cargo. The majority of the access to the city is via aerial transport, mainly airships but also Flying Whales.

Whales are less common nowadays and are being replaced by airships, which are much cheaper to maintain, but some domesticated flying whales still remain in Accuma, although they are mostly used to satisfy rich tourists.

A small percentage of nomadic Accumans still live by their traditions, traveling the world over flying whales like their ancestors did, but most of them have settled on the spire over the last few centuries. They still call themselves “The Sky People”, even though they adopted a sedentary life.

The giant spire where the city of Accuma is built, is located in the perfect spot for long skyship trips to rest and resupply. With the boom of skyships technology advancements occuring now, the city is growing very fast and attracting whealthy people, mainly merchants, who are settling here as a very strategic spot. This only corrupts the city and the Accu, the original denizens of Accuma, are being delegated to the bottom of the Spire, where living conditions are the worst, or to manual labour. Some lucky Accu can still make a living by tending or riding Flying Whales.

The Skyport

This Skyport is located in the sunny side of the Spire, which is nice. It holds a good percentage of the trading made in the city. Both skyships and flying whales can dock in this sky harbor.
With the increasing number of travelers that use these facilities each day, the construction is wearing out faster and faster with each step.

The center of the Skyport holds a market with many varieties of strange items from all over the world and so people from very different origins, shape and forms can be seen here.
It is always busy, day and night, with people carrying crates and sacks from one place to another. Big cranes can help move heavier cargo.

Some big open gates carved in the stone lead to the inside of the spire, where more of the Skyport is. Depending on the size of your skyship or mount, you'll be able to fit inside. But it's not unusual to be in the market and see a big airship slowly entering the gates just a few feet above your head.

You may have also seen some weird structures which core is made of blue crystals. These are Aerolite Stabilizers. Aerolite is a precious mineral that has gravitational properties, and is the most popular for building the devices that maintain the skyships afloat.
These stabilizers focus all aerolite forces in a direction and can help big airships to maneuver and dock in the docks.
Aerolite is very susceptible to magic and can lose its properties is it's used close to the mineral, so any kind of magic is strictly prohibited in the Airships and in the entire Skyport complex.

Know more about Aerolite in the Arua Mines Patreon post.

Two of the main buildings here are the air traffic control towers. Two wooden structures that have 360º view and are in charge of controlling which ship has acces and when.
Each has a big bell that can be heard from all around the Skyport to announce travelers or crew members to board or disembark and announces when a new ship or whale arrives or leaves.

Around the border of the harbor, where the rock meets the sky, many light sources are placed to help guide sailors in the night or in difficult conditions.

There are four other buildings, carved and decorated from the spire itself. From top to bottom:
Storage room: a safe spot for some cargo that need to be redirected to another hauler.

Security post: It's the law in the docks. They keep the zone protected and ensures all travelers safety. They arrest smugglers, pirates and thieves and can temporarily hold them in some cages until they need to be transported to the main Accuma prison.

Customs office: regulates and inspects all cargo, passports and travel permits. They are also the ones who collect taxes or fees. This is the main income Accuma Skyport has.

Waiting room: your next flight didn't arrive yet? Take something to drink from the city and wait in this, very comfortable, sofas carven from stone.

This is the first part of Accuma. More to come in the future. Please don't hesitate to share your feedback and let us know what you think about it so we can keep shaping this setting together.
Enjoy!
