To begin with, the world Nanako stories take place in is a mix of Japanese and American culture. I call it Jameripan. Mai lives in Metroyama and the library name is an obvious reference to the Barnes / Noble bookstore.
The same store can be found in Hyro's Danny's Inferno.
Nanako even makes a cameo in the first page!
In Nanako's Diary V2, chapter 1 page 4, you can spot a display board with some older comic titles like WWCT (When wishes come true) and DQ:N (Diaper Quest: Next).
Nanako lives in Hana City and it can be translated as Flower City, but reading that in Japanese sounds a lot like hanashite (はなして) which means "let me go/let me free", as a reference to Nanako entrapping Mai in a situation she doesn't want to be in.
All the chat messages that you see throughout the story are actual chat messages from people watching my livestreams and reacting in real time to what was going on in the panels. It was pretty neat as none of those messages were planned and were done on the spot.
Norman the fish (ch1 page 13) is a reference to Gill, the fish in Finding Nemo, being played by the same person that plays Norman Osborn in Raimi's Spider-Man movie, Willem Dafoe. Quite intricate, thank you Hyro :p
Nanako's license plate literally says diapered 24/7 (ch1 page 16). And of course, can't go without a "Shit Happens" bumper sticker.
The "Tako" Bell is an obvious reference to Taco Bell mixed with Tako (たこ), which means octopus in Japanese. That explains the odd logo. In the same page Nanako orders a load fast food treats. They are just silly mixups of names.
The silversticks (ch1 page 23) already made an apperance in the previous Nanako's Diary but they're more visible here. Since we had this mix of Japan and USA going we figured that they'd use silverware as chopsticks.

I just get to in debt with idea of an authentic Mexican-Japanese seafood place that could give Nanako that good run she's looking for.

2022-01-24 04:09:08 +0000 UTCI thought the Tako Bell was pretty clever. Although if the menu items lack a certain seafood meats mexican food. If you really wanted to do that they should have had a botona platter. It's basically shrimp, crab, fish, deep fried and served with fish soup and potatoes. A lot of bread and potatoes, but it's good for large parties (serves 8). Expensive though, expensive though sometimes 50 dollars depending on the quality. Now, that is quality seafood at a mexican restaurant.
