In this Goth Girl video, the Conduit once again finds themselves at the coffee shop with Goth Girl. This video was Thanksgiving themed, so naturally I had Goth Girl talk about how much she dislikes Thanksgiving lol. Thanksgiving for me personally is a lot different than it used to be! When I was younger, it was a lot louder with cousins and aunts and uncles all over place. As I've gotten older though, I've come to prefer the quieter holiday's, though I still like the food!
So too does Goth Girl like her peace! She talks about how it's holiday tradition for all of the Helsing's to have a big get-together, but she'd rather not do that lol. However, she says she'd feel much better if the Conduit was there with her, so she gathers their food preferences and gives them a relaxing hand massage.
I think a lot of viewers had the expectation that Thanksgiving with the Helsing's was going to be portrayed in a video, and I too thought about doing something like that. However, when I really sat down to think about what something like that would look like, I couldn't come up with an idea that I thought was both compelling and visually interesting for viewers.
Also, there was one character in particular that I've had at the back of my mind for a good long while, and to me that took precedence over showing the rest of the Helsing's. Namely, Goth Girl's mother.
I'm just gonna say it! The Mysterious Hitchhiker is one of my favorite videos! When thinking about the kind of character Goth Girl's mother would be, I knew I wanted her to be strong and feel like a real threat to the supernatural creatures the Conduit had encountered. As the Matriarch of the Helsing's, she had to be.
In a lot of ways this video is almost designed as a subversion of some of my previous supernatural, horror based ones. When Goth Girls Mom gets in the vehicle with The Driver, I wanted her to feel like the vulnerable one, with the twist being that she was in control all along.
Also, this is the first video to introduce The Driver, the character who works with The Boss, the second Vampire introduced in the story. It's funny, there's something about The Driver that I really like as a character. One one side, you have The Conduit, a person who mysteriously attracts supernatural creatures but has good company with the Helsing sisters. On the other, you have The Driver, a person who's found themselves unfortunately employed by The Boss, a Vampire who went out of her way to first stalk then employ them. I wonder why that is?
See ya'll next week!
