Time Cards: July-October 2022

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't been keeping up with this lately. I'll try to get back on a monthly schedule when it comes to this.

The Cigarettes video was posted in the first week of July. A few days after that I began work on my Indians/Pilgrims project, which has been on my mind for about a year now. I spent 4 days visiting reservations in August and I took a mini Vegas vacation in September.

This project is the culmination of my "Jamestown Saga" - a tobacco company town which began 250 years of slavery and 400 years of conflict with native peoples.

This Indians/Pilgrims project has become a beast that cannot be tamed. The main video, discussing everything from Jamestown to the present, is currently 2h 25m long. Almost double my previous record, which was Cigarettes. I'm about 75% of the way through on the third draft. All that's left after that is music and a dozen watch throughs for errors.

But in addition to that, this video will have several followups - which have been filmed and are in various stages of the editing process.
1. A 3-minute terminology video explaining the difference between American Indian, First Nations, Amerindian, etc.
2. A 1-minute short on the Flight of the Nez Perces.
3. An 8-minute followup video on the War to Save the Buffalo.
4. A 12-minute Nebula-exclusive on Geronimo. (I might release this on Patreon as well if I'm allowed.)

After that, I am making a ~30 minute video on the Pilgrims, which I have only done cursory research on.

The hope was to have this main video out already so I could work on the Pilgrims video and have that out by Thanksgiving. But given how unexpectedly long this video has become, things needed to be shuffled around. Indian Removal should be out this week, the follow ups before Thanksgiving, and the Pilgrims before Christmas.

Thanks for being such loyal supporters and allowing me to spend four months making a feature-length Youtube documentary. 😅

I love being along for the ride. I'm very happy to help support your channel and the content you produce is always so great and thorough. I'm glad also that you get to basically do this as your full time job which I imagine is a blessing and a curse. In any case thank you so much for sticking with it!!!!

I'm one on the minority, that craves for documentaries, that is the kind of content I look into, and this channel makes TV docs shame themselfs. I get that +1h hour doc is not a popular ticket for everyone, everytime, but this is exactly what we need channels & the patreons, to have room for proper, well crafted, and deep content doc's

Make the video as long as you like. We can watch it in parts if needed.

I’m very excited for this. Take your time and enjoy the process. You’re one of a select few on YouTube (that I’m familiar with) who consistently raise the bar for yourself—and all others on the platform—with every video. Love your work and am appreciative whether it comes out 2 weeks from now or 2 months.

I think you should think carefully about publishing such a long video. Look at the engagement statistics broken down by length, and you will see that they fall off dramatically after the 1-hour mark. Have you considered breaking it into parts, maybe two or three? It would make it a lot easier to digest and to consume. Two hours of uninterrupted time are a luxury that not many can afford. You can see examples of how this has been done by others looking at Epic History TV - they usually produce a set of videos on a topic and eventually also publish a single video that can be 2-3 hours, but that ends up much less popular.

Thanks for this update, and take your time. I'll rather have a thorough (set of) video(s) than a bunch of quickies with questionable content!

My body is ready for the 4-hour Zak Snyder cut

That's awesome! The last two videos were incredibly interesting, looking very much forward to this one as well. Good luck!
