Important announcement and Poll

Summary: Some characters will be fully dropped (Characters removed from mugen and changed to be adapted for Pal(Megaman and Lan) I am making a poll to know if I should drop Mugen to make a new sprite based game with the contests from Pal and improve upon that idea. Cervius will be the main character of this new game.

So, it's been a lot on my mind lately and now I gotta ask you guys about it since it's important and will be impacting my supporters. Basically, what I'm thinking of doing is making a "new" game and dropping work on Mugen for now. There are two main reasons for this. The first is that I'd like to try something else, and the other is because I want to drop some of its content completely. Before I get into the former reason and idea, let me talk about the latter. Personally, I've never enjoyed too much working on that kind of content, so I'd rather stop before people ask me more and more for it.  Those characters also kind of risky to be working on and I'd rather be safe than sorry. (It's why Lan and Megaman look more mature and I plan on adding to Megaman some more in Pal.)

Now, about Mugen, I would not completely remove that kind of content from patreon and all that. Quite on the contrary, I plan to keep on making sprite animations and I have the perfect idea for it. This idea would be to make another RPG Maker based game, however, this time, it would be solely focused on the "contest" part of Palestra. Also, whatever the new game may be, I plan to have Cervius as the main character expand upon him.

Now, if you guys absolutely want to keep Mugen, some changes will have to be made. I will be removing and stop working on some of the characters (Pit, Erile, Megaman at the very least).

I think this sum what I wanted to talk about and now, you get to vote!

*Do note that for the future version of Mugen and the Free version, the previously mentioned characters will still be removed

Sorry that I'm a little late to the party, but I wanted to get my 2 cents in as well! I've been subscribed to you for a while, and while some other 100 people have proabably already said, I really play the game for the sprites and their actions and the DDC endings more than anything else. I like that there are so many characters to choose from, but at the same time, I really only like a select few of them (Link, Cloud, Sora, Leon to name a few) the rest are great to look at too though. While I haven't played your other game that you made, I'm sure that it's awesome, as you're one of the only artist that I know of that actually took the time to make a quality yaoi game that's not just a cheap knockoff of someone else's art being animated. In the end though, I love all of your content, and wouldn't mind so much if you slowed down on making the Mugen sprites, so long as the ones that you were making were the more popular ones.

Well, one of the things I'd like to try is to make OCs but heavily based on existing characters. For example, if I wanted to add Link, I'd give him something like a red tunic, change his name a little, keep the personality and alter some of his design a little. My goal would be to make the character recognizable at a glance but it wouldn't actually be him. If people really don't like this I could go back to doing licensed characters, but if possible I think it would be good to move a little away from that. This wasn't planned at first but it ended up being the case after discussing possibilities with others about the game xP.

I'm mixed on this - on one hand, I really love some of the sprite animations you've created for Mugen (Link and Cloud in particular are great), but at the same time, as others have said, I'm mostly playing Mugen to see the sprites, more than playing the game itself (I don't normally play fighting games). It sounds though, from your other comment, that a new game would also remove the licensed characters?

Sean

Yup, exactly this. I'd usually put it on Auto-Battle unless I wanted to test a specific move. @Redflash when you do create another game for the sprites, please add a Gallery View of sorts. :]

Yep, in Pal I try to make the characters look more mature if they look too young (like Megaman and Lan) but for the new game, I have some actual plans to not use characters I could have doubts about and I actually have some special plans about characters where I may not use actual franchise characters but rather characters based on other already exising characters (Example, if I want to do Natsu, then I'd make a character based on his appearance, not on the actual Natsu) this would give me more freedom and also avoid any legal trouble I could have over things like that :P

Hey, I subscribed this month for access to your MUGEN content, but had to unsubscribe when I realized a large part of the characters there are ambiguously aged (Naruto, Sawada, and Kamijo, among others). I like your work with the obviously 18+ characters, and I would like to resubscribe if you could make it a commitment to not use ambiguously aged characters. I'm sure others feel uncomfortable with this as well. Could I take a post like this as your commitment to not use ambiguously aged characters in your work?

ncognizant

Sorry about that but I hope you'll enjoy the new game :). I've enjoyed working on mugen for the time I did but I want to move on to the next step now ;)

Redflash

Most likely not because it will have new characters, but I might reuse some of them as templates at first because creating the base for the game will take the bulk of my time at first.

Redflash

Looks like I'm the minority but I'll really miss your MUGEN content since TheBlueKim is gone. Still, you alone created quite the bit of content and did more than your share at keeping 18+ MUGEN alive. Even if you quit it for the new game, I'd be grateful for what you've done.

Will the animations currently in Mugen get moved over to said new game?

I really do not care about Mugen the fighting game. To me, it is simply a medium to view the sprite content. If I ever do "play" Mugen, it is an auto battle so that the NPCs can trigger various animations without my input. If there was some sort of Theater Mode where I can easily view the sprite work, I would play that over the actual fighting game any day.

Personally, I've loved the sprites in MUGEN, but never cared for the actual game. I just think the engine itself is a bit clunky at this point. Also, again personally, I liked the more 'mature' versions. Everything that you covered in this post I'm 100% on board with. Glad you are trying to get our input on this decision. :] <3

Shilou

Definitely DDC as the main character game. I would be happy to see what new stuff you come up with :)
