Ah I'm sorry the Red Sox thing was lost on you -- watching this in real time, as I was living in Massachusetts in 2004, it was amazing they incorporated the World Series win, it was such a huge deal.
I, too, adore Kate and Sawyer, which is one of the reasons this season is my favorite -- the dynamic between them in these cages just gets me every time!

That Boston Red Sox scene was a amazing but yes, you have to know the background to get it.
The Red Sox were a long-suffering team that hadn't won and championship in like 80 years. They won that year, and in the most amazing way imaginable. Perhaps the most epic comeback in the sports' history.
And I don't even watch or like baseball! But I loved in New England at the time and was surrounded by Boston fans. My friends were ecstatic, that was one of the very best weeks or so of their lives. Remember that this team hadn't won a championship in their lifetimes.
Jack is a Red Sox fan I think. And his dad had that saying about how they never win. So to see that this miracle occured while he was stuck on that island must have been something else.
I am more of a football ⚽ fan. We're that my team, I would have been like no no no Ben rewind, lemme watch that again, in fact leave the TV here! Lol

Still not buying it. Think about it. He already shamelessly slept with Sun and said he didn't want to share her with Jin anymore. He never struck me as a too honourable dude, not to the point of killing himself that is. I mean when we first met him, he planned to run away to America and marry a western woman. After he was beaten badly by Jin, how did he had the strength to run or break to (what I assume to be) a very though glass window, and to top it off, landed right on top of Jin's car (which obviously could have been a coincidence). Not to mention the very real fact that Sun's dad would know for sure he would not kill him (not with the limited info he had). Besides, Sun's dad was all too smug towards her at his funeral.

And the added beauty of it is that the Red Sox really were 3-0 down in a first-to-four series, so Jack's incredulity would've been sky high!

I've watched this thru by myself, with others, and about 40 different reactors on you tube - not once did I consider he didn't commit suicide.
One of the great things about Lost are the right turns - which makes it tougher and tougher to take things at face value sometimes.
But to me it comes down to this....the writers leaned heavily into Asian stereotypes at times, and one of those is honor above everything, shame is the worst. Suicide fits this plot line. He was holding the pearls he gave to Sun in his hand, which also feeds a suicide plot line (he was thinking of Sun and how he couldn't have her so with that and his honor he ended things).
I understand how the right turns make people question everything, but (like the ending - no spoilering) even when they hit us over the head with the answer, people always gonna question ;)

I mean, maybe, but I don't know. Why not just left, leave country and hide. He had enough money. He couldn't have been that ashamed, since he already did the deed in the first place. He wasn't exactly worried for the morality of the situation. I think it is ambiguous. After all, Sun's dad is not stupid. He realised a long time ago that Jin is not a killer. In fact I am a little disappointed that Lexi doubted it, even for a second. I mean Sun is definitely more likely to commit murder than Jin is. She is definitely more devious.

- I'm 99 % sure Jae Lee committed suicide, and I don't even think the scene was supposed to be ambiguous. I mean how would anyone else have been in his room so shortly after Jin was there? And if he was killed, then why would he have held the pearl necklace in his hands? (To be clear, this is not a spoiler, it's been like 15 years since I last watched this show and I barely remember anything.)
- I often wonder where the weird "you taste like strawberries" thing originated. Sawyer says it to Kate, Rack says it to Willow in BtVS, and Harry says it about MJ in Spider-Man. I feel like it can't be a coincidence, it's too weird and too specific.

Being a Massachusetts native, I love this episode just for that Red Sox clip and Jack’s reaction. And I have the same question Lexi! Is Jack now all in?

the significance of the red sox win at the end is also that that's the thing jack's dad always used to say, which is what made sawyer realize he had met jack's dad: "and that's why the sox will never win the series" hence jack's instant belief that ben was lying
