Playing the devil's advocate here: Cain's actions may actually make sense if she knew the human race was already doomed anyway. I don't remember if it has a name, but there is a lower limit to how many people have to survive in order to rebuild humanity. Below that limit there's not enough genetic diversity. So if that limit wasn't reached, then perhaps all she had left was revenge on the Cylons who had already wiped out humanity. And in that case, killing more civilians wouldn't make a difference to survival, but their technology could make a difference in getting revenge. Tricia Helfer is a great actress, playing both Gaius' Six - who's apparently on top of everything, arrogant even - and the Pegasus' - who is thoroughly broken.
