Comments

The venom he coated himself in was the byproduct of permanently scarifying part of his Mana and Vitality. Scarifying -> sacrificing thanks for the chapter! Awesome end to the battle!

Eliel Taskinen

Thanks for the chapter! When you mentioned the poison being flammable I pictured the fight ending with the dragon trying one last time to poison them without kind of super poison and Aaliyah shooting a firelance into its mouth and hammering its mouth shut.

Alex Rosen

Didn’t the dragon show earlier that its poison is both highly flammable and it is not immune to the fire it produces? Aliyah could have shot a low level fire spell and ignite the poinpso

Aaron Hardin

Thank you

no-thoughts-only-vibes

Dragon slash! Lol

Undead Writer

With the cleaning spell it was kinda like she fused it with mana skin to boost the spell and protect herself, but could just be empowered plus most of her mana.

James Everhart

The grove* its tail left in its wake was a few feet deep, but that wasn’t the worst part. The area surrounding the grove* was turning white like bone from the poison. I => groove

Samantha Lane

Thank you for not having Tabitha sacrifice herself, she's one of my favorite characters already, and she has so much potential to explore! It would be a real shame not to see her in Scholl when the plot reaches it.

Sean Carter

Yeah maybe I was thinking it be like mana skin, start off small and have faults that have to be worked on later, but your right could just be their aura or kill zone.( area they have control over mana or other elements)

James Everhart

With the soul devour she may unlock it from the extra exp she steals after the kill

Scott Fellman

I'm bettingn4 for taby, 7 for aaliyah

Scott Fellman

Tyftc loving the story just now caught up after days of bine reading

Freya

Thank you for the chapter. Yay team T&A! (sorry)

Scott, just Scott

Thx for the chapter! I was wondering, do you plan on writing the rest of the story in 3rd person? I felt it was a pretty good choice for this fight but I feel like it could be quite jarring if the narration kept being in the 3rd person going forward.

Vinka

Not really Tabitha has a feather from a bird that was hunted together with other disciples so they can both receive a feather(scale) from flying lesser dragon, but I don't think Aaliyah should wear it just yet as she hasn't gotten used to her feather, but doesn't mean she can't also take one since she was vital as well. true teamwork was what won .

James Everhart

"My new younger martial sister is a bit of a handful." (No further explanation is ever presented or explained from that day forth)

Valderan

I'm betting two for Tabitha and five for aaliyah. The bracelet turning out to be a spatial storage would be hella convenient but I'm not sure how to harvest a beasty like that depending on how the venom reacts. Hopefully they can take some scales for Tabitha new armor and a bale of feathers for the lulls and because its light but a heart? Blood? Awkward to store and probably goes bad quick... Assuming its not toxic as hell though they could use a meal right about now and meat is definitely in the menu.

Valderan

Take.... Take the feather for the hair. Sure only one of them is supposed to get a feather but like... Split it in half or like... Tell the haters to kill their own lesser dragon in single combat and then come back and complain. Either way, they earned at least one feather.

Valderan

Mhm, I would interpret the killing intent and man's zone are more like "meta"-skills. They are special skills and represents a specific soul-pressure (killing intent ~ battle experience, mana zone ~ domain of self....)

Richard Öhler

I actually don't like it when people just sacrifice themselves for no reason. So I think it's a great ending!

deus vault

No it's a skill.... Based on Chapter 119.1 it's a Tier 1 level 58 skill. She has the self cleaning spell in addition to that.

Austin

Nice ending to the fight, now it’s just the cleanup that’s left. I really hope we won’t have like another 3-5 chapters about the pair heading back to the village, imo the next chapter being cleanup should be a time skip + levels/skills/material review after the fight. I always thought this arc was a bit too long, and the wandering around with really no goal in mind until the ruins was really overstaying its welcome after the goblin encounter. Dragon slash does sound like a strong skill, but it shouldn’t be a t5 skill. All previous t5 skills or any skills that I can recall doesn’t seem to be attribute boosted my racial traits, like there’s no “dwarven blacksmithing” or “goblin punch”. This is the first of its kind, and it doesn’t make sense in my head how it would even work. We haven’t heard a description for mana to be draconic, and this lesser dragon is water-poison mana if nothing else. And then we have general Pitz confirming she only has two t5 skills (one that splits arrows and the one that uses specialty arrows for high level opponents) despite killing a lesser dragon with poisoned arrows. It might not be a slash, but if the condition to receive dragon slash is to use a blade and deal a fatal blow to a dragon, why doesn’t Pitz have a t5 dragon shot skill? T4 should be the highest, it could be like a special t4 skill like sword mastery.

Hetian Yu

Don't get me wrong even if a soul skill could control or alter memories Aaliyah wouldn't use it or couldn't without the worse happening, only the Gods could skillfully use something like it, but a weaker version like what she used in the battle would be cool, stopping anyone for even seconds could be dangerous even with a long cool down and heavy cost to use it (for balance), but could win battles.

James Everhart

It might require other skills to work together but the soul stores memory and is vital for the body to move. What the lesser dragon use was closer to a lure skill that made prey less worry to lower their guard, which Aaliyah use mental resistance and soul sense to break free from like how she did with soul devourer, it's just soul sense was its(SD) kryptonite that stop it's movement entirely when look at.

James Everhart

Considering they've made it a point that Pacore has very little Mana, I'm guessing total amount of Mana has very little to do with it. Also, I don't think it's a "Skill" skill at all, much like how killing intent isn't a Skill.

Kyfe

I do think her new bracelet may have a storage space but i think that may be its least amazing function. I don't think many people caught this (I sure didn't on my first read of this chapter) but her devourer skill has changed since she started wearing it. Right when she holds the dragon still for that last blow it describes the ghostly hands as also wearing bracelets. "spectral hands equipped with ghostly bracelets". I wonder how this has altered her devourer skill but also wonder if it will affect her experience transfer as well.

Terrin Scott

I don't think that was part of the Soul Devour Skill. Case in point, the Lesser Dragon did the same thing, albeit to a lesser extent, to both of them by luring them to it's lair.

Kyfe

With how complex it is, I'm willing to bet that's its main function while having at least one secondary function, like storage bracelet. It would make sense to consolidate a whole lot of things together with such a treasure.

Kyfe

It could also add something for her to train in her downtime. She can't fight by herself. She can't fight while sitting on a carriage travelling. There's still so much dead-time in the day she could fill with something to not only take up her time, but maybe add something unique to her repertoire. If she took up carving, maybe it would enhance her cutting abilities, etc.

Kyfe

I wouldn't be surprised if she unlocked a higher Tier variant of the Cleaning Skill, like Dispel, Cleanse, or Purify. Purify might be good. Also, It's not just Tabitha herself that has so much to offer, but everything about her. Her whole family dynamic is something that could be a mini arc, her interactions with the other disciples, her standing in society... Lots of stuff to still add to the story.

Kyfe

Also, T6 Skills are directly controlled/related to the Divinities. She would have to channel the aspect of one of the gods for it to be T6.

Kyfe

Guesses on how many levels they get from killing the lesser dragon? Should be crazy with her skill to grab extra experience. Aaliyah has already gained 11 and Tabitha has gained 8 which is pretty crazy for one outing. Plus dragon hearts are supposed to extend life too right? So a lesser dragon could be useful with that. I kinda wish they had spatial items just so they don't have to leave so much of the corpse to waste out in the wilderness.

Austin

I want to note that I really liked how the Lesser Dragon disregarding Aaliyah as a threat, and then focusing on her after being punished for it are the 2 big mistakes the it made.

Sleepyfoo

@Timo Immig that might help, but it was more that it felt like a suddenly very "game"y and artificial limit was being imposed in a world and story that was otherwise very not a game despite the XP and leveling. Further, it felt like a very concrete and quantified way to talk about the deliberately abstract burning through their resources to build tension. We are deliberately not told this skill takes this much stamina, stamina drains during combat at X per minute and they have this much total, etc. This abstraction helps prevent nit-picking and allows for dramatic exploitation of presented opportunities. To then turn around and say "they have a hard limit of 10 min of combat" and then hand wave most of that time away is very jarring and muddled the tone and flow of the battle and chapters. Narratively, outside the countdown, it was very well communicated that since the battle didn't end decisively it was now a battle of attrition. Further, it was well communicated that both sides were burning through resources and particularly Aaliyah and Tabitha were pushing themselves hard. Tension was being built very well. You could feel the battle of attrition taking place and that it wasn't in the MCs favor. And then "3 Minutes remain" was like a slap in the face. Like we are all of a sudden transported to an arena with a color commenter telling us how much time is left in the match and it happens again when they win and we are sucked out of the moment with the narration going "they won the game just under the wire, tune in next time for their quarter final bout" Taking away the time remaining at the end of the last chapter, and the Time Elapsed and Winner lines from this chapter pretty much solves the issue.

Sleepyfoo

The Countdown could be hinted/added in an earlier chapter, then it wouldn't feel like new information.

Timo Immig

I think she unlocks mana zone whenever she levels up sense mana past 100

Derek Walker

You're not missing anything, a T6 pure attack skill is probably ludicrously devastating to the point of instantly killing enemies of a much higher level. T4 or T5 is just right.

austin kutz

I'm thinking it's more like T5 for sure, and there may be a T6 variation that uses all of a person's regeneration resources. Like a true domain or a reality manipulation field

austin kutz

I’m glad Tabitha got dragon slash. This could be a cool foreshadowing for the big fight with the dragon. That’s probably a long way off. Thanks for the chapter

Ken

Is mana zone a tier 4 or 5 skill? Just curious since you have to be 150 to have a chance to unlock it, so it might be the hardest of it's tier(4/5) to level.

James Everhart

That was a fun chapter. Hopefully we get an explanation on what Aaliyah did to get her cleaning spell so large and effective. Maybe sacrifice some XP to it? Hopefully she didn’t sacrifice any stats. That said I have a few hopefully constructive criticisms. First, the times the narration shifted to the snakes perspective were clunky, and I don’t think they were necessary for this chapter. They worked reasonably well in the prior chapters though. Second, the lack of comment on setting the poison on fire. Particularly after the talk of everything having a weakness and the snake proving itself not immune. I can think of reasons not to try (dense liquid poison instead of aerosolized, mana too strong, etc) but the lack of even one of them being brought up is jarring. I would have liked the pseudo anti-climax of them turning the snakes ultimate skill against it like that. Third, the focus on the “countdown” felt very out of place to me Regardless, I enjoyed this lesser dragon battle and I look forward to where you take the story from here :)

Sleepyfoo

I hope that the Aaliyah unlocks mana zone early Atleast at 130 because of her talent, unique mindset, she seen one, she kinda has a head start with mana skin and all her other mana skills. I think she is only missing control( maybe mana too, but since their master can use it mana isn't the main thing or every mana zone is unique tailored to the user) anyway she close to it and it would be praise worthy the earliest it's unlocked plus can act as hers danger sense ( hopefully she unlocks a similar skill too)

James Everhart

Love it glad soul devourer was used to stop flying snake, could she possibly ( way later) use it to alter memory or control people like how it was first used on her or will that only be possible if she max it out or became the monster. I just really love how the skills improve and work to make the impossible possible such as overcoming 20~50 levels difference (plus team work)

James Everhart

She does have a clean skill it just she was using the spell so both might level since it was life and death battle where Skills and people grow the fastest

James Everhart

Be bloody nice but after this visual I'd bet my arms it's a power up for that specific tier 6 skill.

Straven

Nice, I'll bet someone just learned her personal tier 5 offensive skill. Thanks for the read.

Straven

Nuhuh...she used the spell but it is also a skill. It already leveled when she cleaned her weapon with the spell when it was first tainted by the Serpent. She was at level 57 when she checked her stat after the whole fight with the horrors u.u.

Iphigelina

I wonder if this bracelet's storage space can store physical items like the snake body or if it can only do soul/magic stuff and maybe bank all the experience the snake lets out for later? Or maybe the bracelet actually needs experience to unlock functions and its been running on low battery for the last 3 thousand years and this snake is just the jump start it needs.

Pagemaster

Cleaning is not a skill but a spell. Only skills that could level up from its use is chanting and spell empowerment or however is that one is called.

Skyra

Thank you! For not killing off Tabitha.

Lord Porkalust

Definitely a tier 5 finisher using health mana and stamina. Killing anything that much stronger.. sounds too strong for a tier 4 and used just before the kill so probably not a tier 6 unless I'm missing something.

Samuel McCarren

TFTC. So maybe being with Aaliyah for some time after they getting this close will make Tabitha to want crafty hobby or at least help her sister to craft something cool (bring parts of the monsters) because now she can see for herself how this dragon become a powerful weapon\shield

Fortuner

Very cool chapter. :) Wonder how many level Aaliyah gained in her cleaning skill 😆 ? She's probably the only person leveling that skill in battle xD. So seeing as she already got soul dévorer ready at the instant of death she's gonna gain à lot of exp, not much of wastage if she start the instant it's possible without damning herself. I'm guessing it's only the low-level of the skill that will keep this from being too op. The fighting overall was great. I'm with everyone when I say that it would have been really sad to see Tabitha fell to the serpent. She deserve more than that! There is so much she can bring to the story still. Really, she's badass enough to not die at the first great challenge^^. She's a real character to us, we're attached! Thank you for the chapter, it was a very nice start of the day \○/. Have a good week-end :P

Iphigelina

I still hope that the bracelet is a storage-item ....

Richard Öhler

How are they going to carry it back? I guess harvest a few scales, feathers, and kick the corpse down into the ruins to hide it in the fading death mana zone while they go and get Pacore and crew to come help carry the rest of it back. Either that or they drag a 300 foot snake through the forest. I think most creatures would leave them alone upon seeing two creatures dragging a dead (lesser) dragon.

PickledTink

Hehehehehehe happy gremlin noises. New chapter party. I think this battle was well done as I think adding any more could risk making it feel dragged out. I do like that Aaliyah made the opening but required Tabitha to capitalize on it and actually slay the dragon as it makes Tabitha into a valuable character rather than just the person trying to sacrifice themselves and yet getting nothing done. I worried that Tabitha would be relegated after this to an unimportant side character role after this when it feels like she still has a lot to teach Aaliyah beyond just getting to a not embarrassing level of fighting.

Grant Daniel

Thanks for the chapter, I liked the way you used the skills and if Tabitha got her level 5 skill that has a reference to killing dragons, she has an interesting future.

Sebastian Romero Zapata

I hope she gains at least 5 levels from this… 5 each if she can share the exp

Derek Walker

Interesting... I can see that but this fight seemed to be pushing the Mr. Clean spell. I'm wondering if she gets empowered cleanup or something.

Justin

TYFTC ready for a level up session

Timo Immig

Hurray dragon lite is dead and we have the finishing move for the big one. Well done and looking forward to the aftermath. Padcore gonna be WTF I left you to babysit and you gained 10 levels.

Justin

I second making it an official Tier 5 Skill.

Kyfe

This has been a great fight sequence and a great end the serpent arc. Thank you so much for coming back to this story

Hamfist

I commented the same thing. Should have read comments first.

Skyra

I think this last part is missing attempt at igniting poison as a counter. Since the serpent managed to ignite it to use it as a faux dragon breath. Attempting to ignite it with fire spell as counter should be natural.

Skyra

Definitely glad that Tabitha did not die, it will be fun to see how she and Aaliyah continue to develop, whether they bonds are tested or leveraged to some effect in the future.

Patrick Wheeler

Thanks for the chapter! It was a lot of fun to read it, I'm glad that you decide not to kill Tabitha in the end

Edgar Ghz

Correct

Solopath

Before I backtrack, the dragon has tail feathers doesn't it.

Ember

I think the difference is that the first attack was a poison cloud whereas this was it's actual venom? The first is flammable while they weren't sure if the second was.

Ember

TYFTC and welcome back I missed the story

Adam Danielson

I'm betting it's going to be Tabitha's 2nd tier 5 skill

Austin

If you killed Tabitha I think you would be killed. So looking forward to them getting back to Spotted Creek, and see what their master has to say about the feathers they got in this trip.

Neko Mew

Would it have made sense to try and burn away the poison instead, since it was flammable enough for the wyrm to ignite and is being held around its body?

Solopath

Ahh this was a nice way to round out valentines day. Thanks!

Michael Olson

Tftc

Charles Hughes

Thanks for the chapter! Definitely curious if Dragon slash is an actual skill or just Tabitha rising to the occasion.
