I think what threw you off is that throughout the episode we had several bits of a flash FORWARD to Starbuck crashing onto the planet, plus flash BACK scenes to years before when Starbuck and Adama's son Zack were together, Zack died, Starbuck met Adama, the funeral, etc. But basically the story of this episode is the accident on the flight deck killing 13 pilots who are very hard to replace under the circumstances. Starbuck is the logical choice to teach new pilots, but she's still messed up over Zack and her part in his death. Meanwhile, there's an actual verbal misunderstanding where for a moment Lee thinks Adama DOES know about Starbuck passing Zack when she shouldn't have, but actually Adama DIDN'T know about that, and now he does because Lee lets it slip. And THAT sets up the emotional punch of Adama being very angry with Starbuck ... who he loves like a daughter ... and now possibly losing her in action. It really is pretty confusing ... arguably more confusing than it needed to be.

2023-10-25 04:45:56 +0000 UTCThe pilots at the beginning were celebrating the one guys 1000th landing so he's obviously a very skilled veteran and apparently they make a big deal to have someone that experienced and good to make that many flights. The Galactica is like an aircraft carrier with 1000s of people on board so it's likely there are a lot of people you would have never seen at any given point.
