I honestly didn't like this episode. Gunn's old gang wasn't even like that just indiscriminately killing things. They went around protecting people from actual attacks. and Gunn WAS friends with Angel and then he just comes out with this "I can never be his friend but I like him anyway." BS and it felt forced for the sake of conflict. He has hugged Angel and defended him. They're friends. This whole episode felt out of character for everyone.

It's just a nod to the old detective noir trope of the snivelling underworld informant. It allows our heroes to be mean & edgy while the show always plays it for laughs so they don't look like total dicks.

I hope nothing happens to the two of them because their bromance is epic

I don't know why Angel always treated Merl so badly. It seemed unmotivated and mean.

This episode is so hard to watch for me, because I love the Wes/Gunn friendship and this is one where you can really see it fraying. Back in Pylea they have that little moment where Gunn is in disbelief that Wes would use a strategy that would cause some of his "soldiers" to die, and now this. It's painful to see.
