MISSING THE DAY

Perhaps a dozen of these images have been shared before, but no one has ever seen the full series, let alone over 650 of these images of Jesslyn at 19 years old. 

We had met her the year before. She had impressed me immediately during our first shoot. Jess was loud and opinionated, smart and witty, clever and self-deprecating. She was sexy and vulnerable, talented and educated, alcoholic and vulgar. She also had a penchant for wanting (and attracting) older men. She was, essentially, everything a man could want.

From the very beginning we became fast friends, and throughout each others’ various moves, transitions, and other personal relationships, we’ve remained close. This is a series I was shocked to discover recently, a series I’d forgotten. Not because it was bead, but because this is truly a document of our friendship. The images aren’t fancy or overdone. They’re natural, taken in my bedroom and bathroom at the time. She is naturally beautiful, little make-up, ambient lighting. No artifice or attempt at contrivance. This was simply us, hanging out, taking photos, gossiping and laughing. IT’s what we did best, and still do.
