IT’S GONNA BE OKAY

It’s NOT okay. It’s never going to be okay. The polar ice caps are melting, major, cataclysmic climate change is inevitable, our financial system is untenable, and life is hard, dark, and complicated. But you know what, why not try to enjoy it while we can.

Life isn’t about the big picture, because as you mostly know, the big picture quite often fucking sucks. But it’s the small moments, the quick drink with a friend, the laugh and hug, the good but not great sex with your partner, the free second cherry on your ice cream sundae. As I get older, I realize that it’s the little things that matter most. No one will care how punctual you were with your rent payment, or if you remembered to bring reusable bags to the grocery store.

I’m reminded of these thoughts whenever I look at photos of this beautiful lady, Rachel. She’s endured more in her young life than most of us ever will. And yet she continues to move forward, not let her past effect her future. She continues to seek out happiness, joy, compassion, and love. Even when it’s not going to be okay, she has hopes that it will be. And hope is what it’s all about.
