Valentine’s Lament
Shaley hasn’t always had the best luck in relationships, and recently, it’s been getting to her. This silly dancer, actress, model, and all around goofball is never afraid to be truly honest about her moods, opinions, and struggles, and that’s why I love her.
We’ve become very good friends in the 15 months we’ve known each other, and I can’t imagine life without this special lady now. She’s always quick with a weird witticism, a quirky dance move, or a silly face or voice or gesture that will lighten your heart.
But she has a dark side, also. Shaley struggles with self-doubt, depression, and that awkward uncertainty that seems to plague so many people these days. I’ve spent many an hour talking with her on these topics, offering advice, but mainly listening, caring, and offering an ear and a shoulder for her to bend and lean on.
I asked her if she wanted to shoot a Valentine’s themed series, and without discussing how we would make it happen or what we’d do, she signed up, assuming properly what I wanted. Sure enough, when she arrived at my house last week, she happily discovered a pile of cupcakes, candy, and goodies for her to act deranged with. She also helped herself to my girlfriend’s bottle of whiskey!
