SMALL BLESSINGS

It’s been an emotionally complicated week. I received some really great news, or at least the ball is rolling on some potentially really great news, but I’ve also lost my biggest source of communication with my audience since my Instagram account was deleted. I’ve received literally hundreds of heartfelt messages from people feeling bad about the loss, and though others might not think it matters much, I truly believe it does. 

Not only does it mean I won’t be able to advertise my work here on Patreon, especially with Tumblr fading away, but that account was almost seven years of daily work, daily posting, daily editing, daily engagement all day every day with the public. With the new algorithms and the way Instagram has evolved, I’d never be able to build up my small word-of-mouth account like that ever again.

But there are so many small blessings in this world. I have a girlfriend who truly loves me, a family that deeply supports me, and loyal friends and colleagues who remain the bright side of this ever fluctuating “career.” I can’t complain. Or rather, shouldn’t complain. But I will admit that it’s been an emotional rollercoaster the last two months. I never thought I’d mentally go to the dark and sad places I’ve been lately, but thankfully I’m logical and levelheaded enough to know that this, too, shall pass. I have too much work to do to let this slow me down permanently. 

So, please enjoy this new series. Unfortunately, though I do respect the model in this series, I do not condone most of the other photographers she works with. But I can’t impose my own will on anyone, nor would I try to. Please let me know what you think of my mood and work, and once again, I apologize for the dark tone of my mood. I promise it won’t last forever.
